problem starting

i have an 86 na rx7...the car won't start with the key in the ignition. but it will start with a push button starter connected to the starter. I have changed the fuel pump, and i have been playing around with the switch underneath the stearing wheel, and still can't get the car to start and turn over with the key. The clutch pedal is basicaly dead almost i know i need to change my slave on that. what can be the problem???

Your starter selenoid is not working that is why you can short across the stater terminals but not use the key.
