I believe my truck (with a 350) needs a new ignition switch. But I'm a little reluctant to spent the $450 (just for the switch) the dealer wants, just in case that's not my problem. I'm in smalltown Canada and am having trouble to find elswhere to purchase one at a more reasonable price. Our local Canadian Tire store cannot get one and another autoparts store in the nearby city says he has listings for 1995 and prior and 1998 and newer (nothign for 96-97). I haven't had much luck finding info on the internet either. I did read somewhere that the '97 switch is the same as the '98's and up. Does anyone know if thats true? Right now I have pulled the starter relay out and made a push button set up across it's terminals that lead to the solenoid. The push button is placed in the cab. So to start it I have to turn the key to start and press the push button. My wife thinks I'm going to blow up the truck!
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Hi
I found this at gmpartsdirect.com:
Part number 26061330
SWITCH $121.57 list
$121.57 their price
$26.75 shipping
$148.32 total cost
Rock auto.com, also has ACDelco for around the same price and Standard brand for more money.
Rock ships sooner than gmparts direct.
