Changing from column to floor shifter

Has anyone changed from a column shifter to a floor shifter on a 2003 Taurus?

I just bought a 2003 Ford Taurus and it has a column shifter, my other Taurus, 1998 had a floor shifter can this be changed out?

I can buy the floor console from a local scrap yard for pretty cheap, is it an easy swap or is it a big job?

Thanks,

Willyum

Don't forget that the seats and steering column are different as well. I think that it's great to have the shift lever out of the way on the column, why don't you?

I agree Willyum. I'm 6' 210 and have the shifter in the middle console on our 03 SES and I like to lay my legs to the side and spread out and drive. My right knee hits the shifter so I use a folded-up hand towel for a cushion. Not at all uncomfortable for me and the dog likes the console to move back & forth front seat to back. I got her a piece of rubber that goes under a rug to keep it from slipping and put on the center glove box and now her little paws don't slip on it and she 'preciate it very much. Woof-Woof! :)

Thanks for the info.

I thought the seats were the same, you just had to change the center seat was replaced by the console and of course the column cover

I cant get used to the column shifter, my wife's car is a 5 speed Hyundai Tiburon, and my other Taurus had the floor shifter. I am just used to shifting on the floor.
