Grizzly mauls animal rights activist
West Yellowstone, Mont. _ A 38-year-old man was in fair condition Monday after a grizzly bear attacked a group of animal rights activists hiking eight miles northwest of here.
The victim, who was not identified, and three other members of Buffalo Field Campaign surprised a grizzly sow and two cubs Sunday afternoon.
Clarke Ball, who was behind the other hikers, said he found his companion bleeding from his face and legs.
"He got his face mangled," said Ball. "He had two puncture wounds on his knee and two on his right-hand side below the kidney."
The hikers were part of a group of activists who annually monitor and occasionally disrupt Montana's efforts to keep bison from entering the state from nearby Yellowstone National Park.

Like I said. You don't have to run faster than the bear, you just have to run faster than the person (or people) you're with!

I have no problem with people who want to protect the environment. I do have a problem with people who believe that plants and animals have equal footing or supplant people. I find it humorous when one of the more extreme activists gets it like this.
My sister is big on environmental protection. She and I have debates about what should be done about this or that. But, she is not one of the eco-wacos out there. She understands that people have needs and there are human and financial impacts with any environment policy. Unfortunately, the news doesn't report the position of people like her. They like to report the extreme - of both sides. The ones who run roughshod over the environment and the "save the dung beetle" crowd.
The environmentalists who want to work ways to better maintain things by making it both cost effective for business and not a burden on the people who live there, have some great ideas and suggestions. The ones who think burning SUVs on a dealers lot are complete buttplugs and should get mauled.
