Break Lights not turning on

Currently, my brake lights are not turning on. I think this is what is causing my shift to be lock. Also I turned on my back lights and they work.

Can you please provide me as much and simple information that I could use to fix my break lights.

Thanks

There is a switch underneath of brake paddle, when you press on brake paddle it pushes switch button and it closes brake light circuit and your brake light come on. There is other circuit that goes to shifter (auto), once you press brake paddle and switch closes, it disengages solenoid that locks shifter in PARK position, once solenoid disengaged you can shift out of PARK position.

Their two ways to test if switch failed:

1. Crawl under dashboard and disconnect connector from brake light switch, put jumper between terminals of connectors and see if brake light come on.

2. You need to have circuit tester for this test; crawl under dashboard and disconnect connector from brake light switch, put tester probes on brake switch terminals, press switch and see if circuit tester shows closed circuit.

If brake light didn't come on (or circuit tester didn't show closed circuit) you most likely have faulty brake light switch and it needs to be replaced.
