96 Cav Clutch problems need help!

My 1996 Cavalier is having just a little problem, like it won't shift into gear at all! :banghead: Alright, I'll explain the details. Ok, it all started when i noticed that it was harder to shift into gears than usual, and i thought it had to do something with the stick itself or something inside the transmission. I checked the gear oil, and it was relatively low. So i thought, that's probably it then. And so, I thought i would be safe to run it a while until i get paycheck (since i had zero dollars in my account) so i can fix the thing. But about a week after, the clutch started acting weird. At first, I could feel the clutch pushing back on my foot when i push it down (it felt like it was doing something), and then it started to get really easy to push down. It still worked for a while, but sometimes it was harder to shift than usual. Then just today, it got REALLY REALLY bad... like i was in a highway and it didn't feel like the clutch was catching at all. I was afraid i couldn't shift it into first gear to get the car moving off the highway. But i managed to force into first gear somehow (almost grinding it). So I started to head home, and i stopped at a stop sign. This is when i broke down. I couldn't shift it into first gear at all. So I had to push it off the rode. Luckily there was two guys out there to help me out. One guy had some dot 3 break fluid for the clutch and put some in. Before he put it in, it was really low. But like 20 minutes before that, it was pretty much full. So it's either there is a leak in the system or the fluid is going somewhere where it's not sposed to be, idk. But anyways, i had to grind it in first gear just to get it home. Any help would be good.

I own a 95 Cav and am having just about the same problem right now! I was wondering if you had a chance to get yours looked at or fixed and could tell me what the problem is. Any help with the problem is appreciated!!! thanks

well, i'm taking reluctantly taking it to Chevy... Chevy and a couple of guys figured out that the main problem was the slave cylinder, which is an internal component in my Cavy. When the slave goes, your clutch will not work because there is not enough pressure. But we decided to replace the whole clutch, because the clutch had 120,000 miles on it and it is only sposed to last 75,000.
