What is the best Quality Shift Knob for the price

So, I wanna get a knew shift knob on my stick in my Cavy, the current one is a little worn. So I figure I would see what anyone here has to say suggestion wise.

It's a 95 z24 manual, so I'm not looking for an auto shift knob here. Just looking for something aftermarket, and good quality, and decently priced.

I've been on ebay, but, you know you can never tell what you're getting or whether it's a knock off, so I thought it better to ask. I'm not gonna pick up one of these $10 pieces of trash they sell at Murray's or Autozone either, I want something that isn't going to loosen up on me when I need to shift.

Just point me in the right direction guys. :)

Also, being new to cavs I don't know, do they make shift plates for these cavs instead of the normal shifter bag around the stick? I would assume that someone would make something like that.

Been looking around the forum, but can't seem to find anything definitive to answer my questions.

Aftermarket shift knobs screw onto the shift stick, so it will only fall off or loosen if you don't tighten it all the way. And any shift knob will do fine unless you some how hit or slam the thing around pretty hard. No matter where you get one or for whatever price it's going to be fine man trust me. I got mine from ebay and I love it, it's for an auto but it's made to look like a manual.

My shift knob on my cavy right now is from Ichibahn and it has been working very well for me. And it only cost me like $20.

PS: What are looking for in a shift knob?
Plain and simple?
Flashy? etc etc

And to answer the question about the shift plate, I'm not sure what your talking about. Do you mean something like in lambos where it doesnt have a shift boot but it has the plate that shows the different shift positions??

*EDIT* here is a site with some knobs...

Sweet, those are some decent looking knobs. I am just basically looking for something simple, not flashy, maybe more of a stick shape instead of a knob. I'm thinking I want it black to go better with the tan/grey interior of my car.

I figured pretty much everything is gonna work as long as it screws on right. I had previously tried these kinds from Autozone on my Trans Am, where you use alan screws to basically hold it onto the stick, and those things are crap. I mean my T/A was an auto so I wasn't doing much hard shifting , and the thing would get loose putting it into drive, so I wanna stay away from that kind. I could only imagine how well that kind of knob would work now that I'm driving a stick, not so well I think.

The screw on kind is what I'm looking for I think though, but I was just thinking it best to steer clear of a Murray's or Autozone, during my search.

I'll probably browse around ebay tonight and see what I can find, and you can usually find a decent deal there, and I don't even have to leave my comfy seat.

I am liking the look of that Ichibahn knob maybe I'll see about that gun metal gray looking one there in the picture actually. Have to look around though.

And about the shift plate thing, yeah that's exactly what I meant, something that replaces the boot around the stick, and has the gears labeled like in the Lambo.:) I was just thinking of maybe seeing how it might look. I am actually hoping they make a mod like that for a cav, if they don't they should.

Thanks for your input guys and the sites, appreciated.

God damn do you type alot!!! lol yeah those ones that are held on with alen keys dont tend to work out very well.

I havent seen any of those lambo style things on a cavy before. Your probably going to have to either make one or find a place thats makes them.

 I do tend to type quite a bit. Those are the ones I am looking for, the ones without the knob, basically just streamlined. Maybe I will shop Ichibahn, I'd have to see how it felt, maybe the more normal shape would be better off afterall, but we'll see. About the plate thing, mostly just a thought, see if anyone knew about it being done.

I think maybe you're right about not tightening those things down enough, or maybe I should have drilled some guide holes in the stick to help them tighten in there.:grinyes:

I've pretty much have had every shape shift knob you could have because I get sick of using just one all the time.

I thought about doing the whole drilling some guide holes into it also. that might be something I'm going to look into.

Found a decent priced one on ebay, as well as a few dealers in my area that carry them, maybe I'll drive down and get myself one of them tomorrow. Much prefer to get to see how it's gonna feel in my hand first, so I'll probably get it from my area.

Thanks tons for the tips and help guys.

I had a "stick"/non knob one in my 2.2 and it's just weird, it's like your shifting a wanker into gear, even my ex would look at me weird and make me take my hand off it when it would just be resting on top of it, like you would with a knob style shift knob, idk too weird for me

Yeah, I think the "Stick" might take a bit of getting used to, I definitely would like to get a feel for it before buying, but the prices on ebay are probably cheaper so I may just go that route instead, and then hope I like it.

I am looking at the the Ichibahn Drive series, maybe in the gun metal color to better match my interior. But I may shop around to find something similar from another brand, who knows. But if I go down to the shop, I may just find something else that I really like and get it instead. :)

I can see the similarites with the different shift knob resembling something else. Your girl was watching out for your manliness making sure you didn't get to comfortable with a stick in your hand.:iceslolan

But we'll see, I think in the next few days I'll have something new, and I'll update with what I got.
