I purchased a ECM for a 1986 Caprice on rockauto.com Cost was are $75 but you will have to check the prices for your car. You might try a online junkyard search also.

:eek2: Was that a new one? You can pick them up in my area between $75-200 sometimes more depends on what it is and all but a GM Caprice no more than 150, unless it is a new one.

Did you leave your hood open? That's not a very nice thing to do, whoever did it. Since a '94 is an "ODB-1½" PCM, and is flash-ROM programmed, make certain thw PCM you get is from an identical engine, transmisison, and axle ratio vehicle. Your other option is to send the replacement in to get it reflashed.

GM's dealership was talking about $280 (installed) for an ECM for my '92 305... 500 is way too much!!!!

I was told to avoid the aftermarkets ($75 or so) due to problems w/ them after install... Heard of one woman w/ a 94 going through 3 aftermarkets before just going with the GM standard and taking the other back.

Anybody know if there are any good aftermarkets?

My car cut out on me while driving and my batt. tested bad while in the car but good while out.. changing battery cables tomorrow.. but when i got the car it didnt run until my uncle shook the ECM while i was turning the key.. Figured I'd replace that as well.. Cant afford another issue like that...

Also.. if I change out the ECM would it be one of the components that needs switched out after an engine upgrade in the future? or just reprogrammed?

I have bought 4-5 pcms for 94-5 b-bodies for $60-85 each. I have all the programming stuff to make them right for my car though so I never had to get picky about what they wwere setup for stock.

You might consider getting a 94-5 pcm from any Roady, Caprice, Fleetwood or V8 f-body, those are all the same exact part number and then send it off to someone like madz28.com for reprogramming and get a performance mod out of this whole situation too.
