I am having an intermitent problem where the A/c blows warm sometimes. The dealer checked the refrigerant levels and of course the problem happens only once in a while. They said they need to see it when it happens. Left it at the dealer and they can't duplicate the problem. It is not a leak as they checked with a dye. Anyone else have this problem??

It's not necessary to post the same question repeatedly to get an answer. Obviously it's not a refrigerant issue, as the vehicle has the ability to get cold. It's most likely an electrical problem. With such limited information, it's impossible to tell. Does the compressor clutch disengage? Is the auxillary fan working? Is the water valve sticking? My crystal ball is foggy. lol

There is a problem with some of the electronic climate controls where the a/c and heat will run at random etc., not sure if yours is one of them but it is a common problem. On my son's 96 318i we had to have a new capacitor installed in the control itself, and then later the sensor that sits in the air duct(forget what it's called, the common nickname is the sword). Does yours randomly turn on/off or do anything else weird other than cooling? Heater, defroster work OK?

Sorry, the item was the final stage blower resistor assy. Cost a little over a hundred bucks, the climate control unit costs about 40-50 bucks to have repaired by a variety of folks you can find, some are even on Ebay. A dealer would charge you 400+ labor to replace, of course this may not even apply to you. My only thought is that if you have proper refrigerant these might be suspect.

A/C works perfectly most of the time. I have the extended warranty but the dealer says they have to see the car when it fails to diagnose. The car is only 4 years old. It is not the fan cause it blows fine all the time. Just sometimes there is no cold air. Then 20 minutes or so later it blows cold again and does not act up for a day or more. Can't duplicate the problem when service is open and I am close to the dealership to take it right in.

As far as I can see the fan blows all the time. The A/C fails just once in a while and not when I have been able to take it immediately to the dealer for them to put it on the computer. The last time it failed was last night at around 8 pm. Started the car and all of a sudden it went from cold A/C to warm air. Lasted over 20 minutes on the full drive home. Hope it does it again this morning and I will head straight to the dealership. Otherwise they say they can't do anything till it fails totally or I can get it to them when it is acting up. Strange for a 4 year old car. At least I have a 6 year or 100,000 mile warranty. I called the corporate offices to complain and will call again if I can't get it to fail when service is open. I am sure you can understand my frustration in posting more than once.

Hello Everyone,
My A/C was on and off acting up again last week. I have stayed on the dealership and even called BMW North American Home Office... Anyway it failed a few times last week when I could not get it to the dealership but the other day it failed in the late afternoon and I was able to get it to the dealership and they put it on the computer. Looks like it was the Evaporator Sensor. They replaced it and the A/C seems much better. They said the reading on the computer were better after the replacement.. The car is 4 years old and luckily I have the extended warranty. Nothing is cheap on repairs. They recently replaced the door locks module.
