bmw air conditioner

I own a 2002 BMW 330 cic. I am having an intermitent problem with the air conditioning. It sometimes does not blow cold and then corrects itself after driving or playing with the switches. It happens only sometimes and the dealer can not duplicate the problem. I have the extended warranty and they stil want to wait for it to completely fail or for me to try to get it to service when it is acting up.

Any others have this problem???

I have a 1998 320i and it's exhibiting the same problem as yours. It happens when I smoke with the windows open and the air conditioner is running or after I park in a basement where fumes from other vehicles are probably sensed by the aircondition sensor. I think the sensor detects impurities in the car and shuts it down for a while until the air clears. What I usually do is open all windows while the car is running and close it after about 1 minute.

This is just an educated guess. I have not brought it to the dealership yet.

My problem lasted 6 months on and off. I had it to the dealership several times but they could not duplicate the problem. I finally got it resolved when I was able to get it to the dealership while it was malfunctioning and they put the computer on it. First they replaced the sensor but I still had issues. I had it back to the dealership when it acted up again and they finally replaced the compressor and dryer. I had the extended warranty luckily. It works fine now. When I had the problems it only happened once in a while usually if it was cooler out. I live in Florida so the problem was more prevalent in the spring or fall on days when the temp outside was high 70's or low 80's. Really weird how the A/C would be ice cold one time and then blow hot another.
