I have the opportunity to buy a 64' chevelle SS, it is coming up at a local auction so i havent been able to see it yet. I will be able to check it out on friday. I've done some research, but I was wondering if any of you could tell me some things about it mabye from personal expirience.

'64? Good car. Look for rust around the back window, in the rocker and quarter panels, and in the back of the front fenders. If you find rust in any of these places, be sure to have the frame checked by a knowledgeable frame guy. Frames in the A-bodies (what a '64 Chevelle is) are known to have rust issues.

It may sound funny, but the majority of '64 and '65 "SS" cars were 6 cylinder powered, with PowerGlide. Not to worry, the small block AND big block bolt right in, as does TH400...

Personally, I like the '64/5 better than the '66/7. But that's me...

Is the 327 the biggest engine they put in a '64? if so can I drop in a bigger engine?

As far as I know, yes, 327 was the "big" engine for the '64 Chevelle. There were a few '65s built with the 425 HP 396, but quite rare. Big block WILL bolt right in, and all the "goodies" (engine, trans and chassis) that fit a '66 will fit the '64.
