Ok i am currently looking to purchase a new truck and wanted to get somthing like a sport truck . So i did some research and found these too and wanted to know exactly what you guys think about them. Since i dont know much about either truck other then what there respected companys stated about them i would like to possibly get some pro's and con's about both so i can go further in finding my final decistion between the too.
So please if anyone has any information that you feel would be useful to my future project please feel free to state it ..........
ANd if you think there may b another truck that i could possibly find that would compete with these greatly then i am open for new ideas. Thank you

Check out these websites, they'll give you a lot of information on both.

Personally I would go with the 454ss. Also I'm a GM guy so I'm not gonna pick a Ford. If your looking towards performance there both about the same in 1/4 mile time. In my truck which is a 97 Sierra with a 350 Vortec,sc/sb I have raced both and have beaten both. So if you want just performance you can probably save some money and get just a reg. truck like mine with a 5.7. But if you looking for a special truck like 1 of those, go with the 454ss. A big block with free flowing exhaust, no better sound than that.

i would bet that the ford lightning would win stock for stock, due to the fact that ford cant seem to make anything naturally aspirated really powerful anymore. the 454 ss. is also sort of a turd, though if you replace critical components, such as the heads and the cam, you will be shredding tires all the way into top gear lol. so with a few mods, i would pick the big block chevy over the supercharged ford anyday. plus they look so damn cool and they are chevy's after all lol

first off a 90-95 lightning is n/a they statred supercharging them in 99 second off if u simply compare weight of the trucks the weight of a 454 chevy is a lot heavier than a 351 lightning...........and i own a 04 lightning and i no for a fact a 90-95 will beat a 454 in the 1/4 only by a thenth or 2 but it will win

uh.... the 454ss is only about 100 pounds heavier.
Anyway, here is some info about both trucks, this info is based off of the 1993 models (the lightning wasnt made until '93):
-the 454ss has a power to weight ratio (lb/hp) of 17.3 , the lightning has one of 18.0 ....(the lower the better)
-the 454ss goes 0 to 60 in 7.2 seconds, the lightning goes 0 to 60 also in 7.2 seconds
-the 454ss does the 1/4 mile in 15.8 seconds, the lightning does the 1/4 mile in 15.6 seconds.
-the 454ss has 255hp @ 4000rpm, the lightning has 240 hp @ 4200rpm
-the 454ss has 405ft/lbs of torque @ 2400rpm, the lightning has 340 ft/lbs @ 3200rpm
Both trucks are great trucks. the 454 engine in the 454ss is very restricted, open it up and then you'll get much more power, it was just a regular 454 engine put into a light truck, nothing special. the lightning was built by the SVT team to go fast and compete with the 454ss. either way you go, you will have a very enjoyable truck.

It is a good read. Enjoy!

yeah i noticed they pumped their newest ford lightning trucks up to 380 horse and 450 lb.ft. with supercharging... my n/a 383 chevy would spank that sad thing lol. though a supercharger is pretty cool lol

We'll at the moment i already own a 94 Gmc Sierra with a 350 not vortec though =( Sad but it does have a Cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and a tru dual exhaust system *FLOWMASTERS * , but i will soon have headers, smaller pullys, 9mmwires and better plugs , jet chip, and possibly a few other mods that i havn't found yet lol . But yes i am pretty much done with taht idea cus i asked my insurance how much it would be over a 6month period and this is what they said lol $1800 for 6months and i hung up =) so no im going to stick with my truck and just mk it quicker , otherwise mayb even just find a normal silverado with a vortec and beef it up alittle? who knows.. but if anyone has any other ideas im open for anything really at the moment

make your own vortec. complete vortec heads are only 275 bucks a-piece, and as long as you don't put a bigger cam than they can take, you can put em in with no mods at all. then just get an edelbrock vortec manifold, and you have yourself a vortec lol... or you could just pull the stock vortec manifold off a junkyard truck...
