Turbo Lag Problem???

I installed a custom turbo kit on my PT a little while ago and am having some problems with turbo lag. When i am at wide open throttle i start making boost at about 2800-3000 rpms and it slowly climbs to 6psi (my pre-set) at about 4200-4400 rpms. Im running a t04e turbo on a 2.4l chrysler "EDZ" motor (similar to neon motor without the closed deck and oil squirters). It just seems like this is a hell of alot of lag to me, maybe im running to big of a turbo. I love it when it hits 6 pounds though, its like getting rear ended by a big rig, or atleast it fells like it compared to what it used to do. Thanks for any help.

As you stated yourself. You are probably running too big a turbo. The bigger the turbo in proportion to the amount of power, the more the turbo lag. Is it a T3 or a T4 or higher? I would recommend a T3 with the sort of power you would be producing.

why limit to 6 psi.
you should be able to run more than that.
your turbo is definately capable of more boost

In response to the 2nd post, it is a t3/t4... i believe it is a t3 exhaust side with a t4 compressor side, they do this to limit turbo-lag but either i or them have done something wrong in the process, most likely me... being this is my first turbo install. And in response to the 2nd question, im limiting to 6psi because i done got a minivan motor under my hood, the same motor is used in chrysler minvans and the factory base model neons... it is the 2.4 liter "EDZ" motor... the neon srt-4's and the PT Cruiser GT models have to 2.4 liter "EDY" motor which is race prepared including a closed deck and oil-coolers for the pistons. If i go any more than 6 psi im afraid of introducing a piston rod to the good ole' cal-trans workers, and that my friend... is not something i want to do. If you think i can go higher tell me, im gonna try running some Aviation gas which i believe is 127 octane and i want to turn the turbo to 12 pounds, some guy did it with a PT that was running factory internals, the only this is that he is intercooled and i am not... and to my understanding that is one hell of a difference. If you have any help or comments fell free, im a rookie at this turbo stuff.

Your probably going to have a little lag with that turbo. Ive "done got" (as you said) a T3T40E on my 3.0L duratec motor. Turbo starts to spool around 1500-1750 rpms and reaches full boost by about 3600-3700 rpms. 6 psi is pretty moderate on your motor, but im assuming since this is a custom job, that no tuning has been done at this point. I think I would keep it where its at until you can put it on a dyno and get some A/F readings.

Ive finally tracked the problem down. I traced the problem to a blown-out exhaust gasket between the manifold and the turbo, i noticed an exhaust leak and it just kept getting louder, after about an hour tacking up some pin hole leaks and installing a new turbo-exhaust gasket i have the t04e making full boost at about 2800-3000 rpm. It is really nice, thank you guys for all of your help. The damn thing sounds like a diesel truck.

6psi on a built 2.4L is horrible......219whp is way less than you should make.

Check the sig...push that thing harder and get some use out of it!! BTW, my turbo spools at 4400rpm
