Is that what the SAT stands for? Anyways, I still haven't taken the SAT test, and I signed up for it for october. I have a book "Maximum Sat" that I read and worked through, but I didn't really find it that usefull. For those of you that took the test, how did you go about preparing for it?

drank the night before. then took it again the same way. 1220 ain't bad. why study?

then again, now it's all new for you young folk. that whole essay thing, which i would have aced and gotten a 2000 from that alone. yeah yeah, the new scoring system makes a 1220 look like rubbish.

too bad you're the first set i think to take the new tests. im not sure if they were up and going last year or not.

I took the new one last year, and it was so easy.

I did absolutely no preparing for it and got a 1600. That's equivalent to a 1200 on the old SAT. Anyway, don't worry about it, and my only advice is to not stress out.

If anything, you can also take the ACT. I got a 28 on that, you should be able to do the same. I've heard men do better on the SAT though, and vice versa on the ACT.

Once again, don't stress out.

a 1200 on the old test would be averaging 600 per section. 600 per section for 3 sections is 1800, not 1600. A 1600 on the new test is like a 1070 on the old one.

They reworked the scoring for the SAT?!? I never heard about that.

Anyways, some people will tell you that you can prepare by doing X Y and Z, others will tell you theres no real way to prepare for it. I did nothing inpreparation and got a 1320 on the old system. Its a good score, but I still suck at school in general, so these tests mean nothing in the long run. I had a friend that scored 1280 on the old 1600 scale and is a complete fuckup. I have another friend who got around 1020 and has way better grades than me.

So your score might help you get into certain school, but after that your transcript and resume do all the talking. Since I enrolled in college I've only been asked about my SAT and ACT scores maybe twice. And both times were by professors trying to figure out why I'm such a loser when it comes to classwork.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Needless to say, I did worse on the math section. Haha...1800 ftw!

I got an 1110 on the old one. Was out camping. Woke up around 4:30a.m. to a piss and remembered that my friend and I had to be back in town withing the next hour to take the test. It was scheduled for 5:30 am which blew! Had 4-hrs of bad sleep since I slept on a rock.

Take your time and pace yourself. Keep it as simple as possible. Overthinking's your enemy. Acunamatada!

I only got an 1120 on the "old" SAT, but I wouldn't call myself "stupid" or anything... I still can't figure out how I scored higher on the Verbal than the Math (I am a math teacher now, afterall... and I had to start somewhere...)
Just go in knowing that you will do however well you can do. That's all I have to say about it.

I actually remember my high school junior english teacher telling us about a study (she didnt have any specific sources or anything) it said that students who took the test after a night out drinking did better on the SAT than those who didnt. Or you could do what I did, go out drinking, dont stop drinking until about 2 hours before the test, get a ride to the test and take it smashed.

Its harder than you think. Have you ever heard of lean management or the toyota production system? Yes, I applied both of those very relevantly in a 5 paragraph essay but I only got either a 4 or a 5, I can't really remember.

I was too good to take SAT's, so I didn't.

Probably a good thing considering there wasn't anywhere in NZ where you could take them...

Got a 1310 on the old one, didnt really do anything to prepare other then go to bed early and eat a nice breakfast. Took it a 2nd time and fell asleep during it, got a 1260 or 1280, dont remember.

SAT's and ACT's are all a crock of shit, IMO. I preferred the ACT's though.

Universities are sloooowly starting to not require those stupid tests for acceptance now.

The last time I took the SAT was in 8th grade, and even back then I got a 1080. Took the ACT junior year and got a 29. ACT is much, much easier. I hadn't heard that they re-worked the SAT scoring and added an essay to it.
