Big Bad Blue '70 AMX

This is an OOP Motor City Resin 1970 AMX repopped from an original ’70 annual kit. Nicely cast from a very clean mold, though I had problems with the kit (mostly my fault, worst being severe warpage in my dehydrator, the resin is soft and warps at a much lower temperature than any other I've built) with many glitches along the way causing me to take well over a year to build it. I was inspired to build a ’70 after seeing one featured on a Speed Channel muscle car show; the black shadow mask and the “sidepipe” rocker trim and the hood scoop looked particularly cool on the ’70.
Wheels/tires are from a Revell ’67 GTX, redlines are Shabo dry transfers. The black shadow mask is airbrushed Tamiya TS semigloss black, the separation stripes are BMF toned down w/semigloss clear to look like the silver factory stripes. AMX tags were made on the computer and printed on my laser printer.
I’m happy w/the overall appearance which matches pictures of a 1:1 that I really dug when I saw it, and I’m relieved to have this one finally done considering how it tried my patience many times. It currently has no engine, it may get one someday but right now it’s as done as it’s going to get.

Looks gorgeous Bob. Why is it you build great models of my favorite cars?

Thanks for the replies!
Here's the AMX with another favorite of mine, a formerly-ratty '68 Javelin that I restored:

That's one big, bad and blue AMX:thumbsup:
Did you Alclad the bumpers or send them out for plating? Regardless, you did a nice job and thanks for the warning on the resin warpage. I'll store that one in the memory banks for when I build my MCR Mercury Cyclone.

Thanks! The bumpers are done w/Spaz Stix chrome, a very similar product to Alclad II. In spoon tests (Alclad over black enamel, Spax Stix over Tamiya TS gloss black) the Spaz Stix stuff looked slightly better, and both looked great. I heard it was good, and found a bottle at Hobbytown in the R/C dept. I just wish that any of these chromes could be clearcoated, no matter what anyone has said, they all lose their sheen a lot when clearcoated even w/something as mild as Future. My test of Mirrachrome's new "Killer Chrome" was very disappointing.

My AMC-nut-brother wants to know where you got the '68 Javelin model.
The Javelin is an original promo that I bought many years ago from a friend to restore. It was badly sun damaged and needed a repaint and all the chrome redone. I decided to detail it out like a model, as it's value was already compromised severely. I had to use plastic sheet for the glass since the promo glass was opaque yellow from sun damage.

Those are some really, really cool cars that don't get a lot of attention. Way to bring them to light! AMC made some seriously cool cars. It's too bad they don't anymore, and too bad no one makes kits of what they did make. It's always a treat to see your perfectly clean builds on some of these more obscure cars, giving them the attention they deserve.

Bob,

Thanks! It's Testors auto lacquer Big Bad Blue, an original AMC color used in '69/'70. I was lucky they had it, I had already decided on the color before I realized I could get it so easily.

Looks brilliant, I've never seen a model of this before, the stance looks about right to me from the pictures that I have seen but I'm no expert being from the UK!
What was the one in the James Bond film 'The Man With the Golden Gun' I seem to remember it was an AMC Hornet (1974?) that he drove straight out of the showroom and then did a barrel roll over the river!
