Question on installing a battery disconnect switch

Would I hurt anything on my 2000 Grand Prix if I installed a battery disconnect switch. I plan to disconnect the power daily and want to know if it will hurt the computer or anything else. Thanks

I have an intermittent problem with battery draw from the iginition switch. Until I get it fixed I want to keep it from draining my battery. My key gets stuck in the ignition in the on position and won't come out everytime. I'm thinking the switch is bad. I figure this would be an easy temporary fix.

OK, now I understand. Parasitic drain/draw.
For temporary I see no problems. If radio Theftlock is active just have your codes.
The ignition switch could definitely cause a shift interlock problem and/or key release problem. But check all fuses and fuse sockets for BTSI first. Also the shift interlock solenoid at the shifter assembly. Maybe some old coffee or soda was spilled at one time.
But with your symptoms the ignition switch is a good possibility. Good luck.
BTW - On the 2000 and up GP models it is recommended to replace the key lock cylinder too.

You're welcome.
You'll only have to worry about it if you have Theftlock security active but do not remember your codes. When active the Theftlock LED flashes. If you disconnect the battery and get a LOC then you will need the programming procedure in which we have a few floating around the forum that still work.
