Carbon fiber hood

I have been told that I can save about 50lbs by changing my hood with a CF hood (OEM cf hood). Also, I like the way they look so I have no objection with changing the hood minus the cost to me. I have a question that might sound a little stupid but I have never had a CF hood before. I was wondering how exactly do the Hood pins work? I know they have to be drilled into the hood and there are pins that hold the hood down and when you release the pins, the hood pops. Can someone explain this to me more clearly?

The framework where the stock latch is has a bar that goes across the front of the radiator. You drill two holes on each end of this bar and stick the threaded studs down through them. Then you take a lock washer and a nut on the underside of it and use it to adjust how high you need the studs to stick up. Then you put another lock washer and nut over the top all the way down to hold it in place. After that, some people will just bring the hood down on them and give it a little bump onto the studs to get dimples of where the studs will hit. They then use those dimples as their marks to drill the holes in the hood. Usually a plate fits over the top of the holes then that you put a lock washer and nut on the underside of to hold it in place so that they holes have a clean look to it. Also the lock pins are usually connected to these plates. Ya put the hood down and the studs should slid right up through the plates and you put your pins in and voila!

I hope that helps make it a little more clearer of what all is needed and involved in doing them.

Oh yeah, and some people keep the stock latches as an extra security feature if the car is their daily driver and they don't want people getting under the hood and messing with stuff. But, some people also take the latches off for easier access... I for one would keep the latch.

You wont save 50 lbs. The stock hood weighs around 20-25lbs and a cf hood is probably 10-15 so look to save about 10
