I need some help on understanding a few things and finding out what i need. I recently bought a 98 camaro with a 3.8l v6 , no matter how hard i try it will not do a burn out..... i have suceeded only twice and both times it was on the same surface. also when it does work only one of the wheels spin... if someone knows why and what i could do please help! thanks

try putting more air in your tire, or do donuts so you can take some of that traction off those tires. or jus wait til its moist outside

I believe that your car has an "open differential" which is the reason only one wheele is spinning. For more info about it here is a link. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential1.htm

My 3.8 didn't want to do a burn out with the 3.08 gears, it will with the 3.42's now though.

Welcome on your first pot on AF.
Why would you want to sit still and burn off your tires and wear out your rear end and tire tread?
Does not make good sense to me.

Don't forget the other assorted powertrain damage, such as U-joints, transmission, etc.

I buy cheap street tires and am in the process of swapping in a 8.5 rear anyway but I enjoy leaving smoke. I enjoy looking at a black cloud and smelling liquefied rubber and thinking to myself, I did that . Its near orgasmic to me :grinyes: .

i cant get enough burnouts to satisfy me. if i had the money to pay for gas and tires i would burn out 24/7. its great. i actually have a few designated spots where me and some friends go for burnouts and donuts and losin it around turns. but back on topic, yes you do have a open rear end, as gay as it sounds thats what ya got, and it makes it easier to spin that one tire if your turning, turning right i think. but if you turn left and gas it up hard you might be able to conceive a donut. good luck and be smart when you do so

Are ya holding the brake while giving it gas? That'll help hold ya still and loosen up that rear tire. Most V6's (especially stock) just aren't strong enough to brake the tires loose without holding down the brake.

Do the v6's come with the traction control?
If so, make sure that's off, because that could be your problem.

They have a second gear start button that will lock out first gear, but it's a switch that you must turn on, it doesn't automatically come on.

is that the srs switch on the dash or is that what the traction control in the v6 is called? i got a friend with a 98 v6/auto and we were both sort of scratching our heads

I'm not particularly fond of burn outs myself

Back in 86 i had my shiny brand new black IROC Z parked in a lot where i worked and this guy came into the parking lot and started doing full circle burnouts. Well, one of his tires picked up & threw a rock and guess where it went...........Right into my right quarter panel with a nice little dent and a chunk of paint chipped off right down to bare metal.

It's the SGS switch, beside the fog lights switch on the dash. It locks out first gear and basically is v6 traction control, it's very handy in the snow haha.

watch for cops, hold brake just enough to not move, apply gas, save for new tires

^ that first step is the most important.

if i put the sgs switch on it will allow me to do burn outs ????

No! It will lock you out of first gear making it almost impossible to spin the tires with a 3.8, even on a wet surface.

Check the door jamb for your rpo codes. There should be one that starts with "GU" and have a number after that. Post up what it is and it'll tell what rear end you have, when I had 3.08's it was all I could do to spin my tires, now that I have 3.42's it has become much easier.
