I saw that on a billboard today. I think it's worth posting.

Just a reminder from your friends at AF. :)

Jay, it was worth posting. Unfortunately, some think they are invincible. I use seatbelts even on the back seat.

I buckle up without even thinking about it. Most of the time I don't end up needing it, but like the slogan says, "You never know." I do it just out of habit, have since I was little, and it feels wierd if I don't have it on.

For me its a feeling of control, if i am not wearing it like I forget, i feel like i don't have as much control over the car and that i'll just slide all over, when i have my seatbelt on I become the car, and the car becomes me...

It's the second thing I do when I get in a car... Right after closing the door. :D But when I was driving a friends car (an integra, supercharged no less) I just wanted to pull it up 10 feet and I didn't put on my seatbelt. It felt soooo weird driving w/o a seat belt...

I know what you mean. I have to force myself not to put my belt on if I'm just moving the car in the driveway, but for the entire 10 seconds or less of driving, I feel so strange. I feel like I could just slosh all around in the cabin without it on.

I've been driving 36 years and can't think of a time I haven't buckled up (unless the car didn't have seat belts) -- either as a driver or passenger. I always think of the cop on TV that says he "never unbuckled a dead person".....

it's just so routine now.... i know when we visited europe nobody in the backs of cars had seat belts on, NOBODY!! it was so weird, cause i just do it without thinkin, i think it's more comfortable being strapped into your seat

I rarely belt up when sitting in the back of a car. Dunno why..

Any one that doesn't wear a seat belt is a bloody fool.

I've lost to close friends who may still have been here today if they took the time to belt up.

All cars should have an alarm that sounds off untill you have belted up...not just a light.

My Mazda Protoge has a little light and an annoying beep... It works well, but the problem is that it goes off not only when you don't have your belt buckled but whenever it wants. Nevertheless, it does a good job of making sure you buckled.

Quote from the Simpsons's:
Homer is driving Snake's convertible...
Lisa: Shouldn't you be wearing your seatbelt, Dad?
Homer: Pssh! Seatbelts kill more people than they save.
Lisa: That's airbags, Dad!
Homer: Oh well...

Yet another example of Homer's stupidity... Brought to you by ~Twist~

Toyota Echo's (at least the one I've [unfortunately] had experience with) had a light in the instrument cluster, but also one for the pass. seat belt on the center console that never goes out until you buckle that seat belt up. So if you are driving by yourself in one, you either have to buckle nobody up in the pass. seat or deal with the annoying light on the console

The passenger seat has a weight sensor that triggers that light. It takes about 20 pounds or so to get it to come on. So, the light should only come on when someone's in the seat, but not buckled. Yours must have been broken. :( The Prius has the same thing. Other Toyotas have 'em?

When you're bored and traffic is stopped, it's fun to reach over and hit the passenger seat to make the light flash in time to the music. :D

They only need to have a drivers one....what do these places who make our cars think off :bloated:

If i carry people in my car i will not drive anywhere untill all the passengers have belts on. The driver should make sure of this.

In the U.S., if a car is pulled over and a passenger isn't buckled, the driver gets the ticket. I heard there can be an exception if the driver tells the passenger to buckle up, and the passenger refuses, and both testify so. But that sounds like a load of crap that no court would believe.

Yeah, this has happened in numerous states. Alabama instituted a "Click it or Ticket" campaign this summer. That's were they set up checkpts and look to see if you're belted. But that withstanding, the law is pretty hard to enforce. Basically it's a law that is checked when you're pulled over for other crimes (e.g. speeding).

i think here if your over 16 it's your responsibility to do up your seatbelt... so if i'm correct (this has never happened to me) then i think only the passenger over 16 with his/her seatbelt undone gets the ticket

I think its the same here....the driver gets the ticket if they are under 16.

But even if they are...you are the one driving and you are in charge and you shouldn't drive untii they are belted up.

I would hate to have a crash if i was driving and the person was killed because he didnt have a selt belt on and i never told him. Even worse if the crash was my fault.

Putting a seatbelt on for me is just total common sense, I don't see how anyone can't!!. For one thing they make it easy to drive as you don't slide in your seat.

In NZ even tho' we have the rule, if you are over 16 its your choice. I will NOT move my car till everyone puts their belt on!!

But what would be even safer then a seatbelt, is a 5 point safety helmet !!:p

think you may be mistaken there sarge...If you are over 16 it is your responsibility ...i.e.if you are over 16 and get caught, you get the ticket, not the driver.

This is another case of genetic selection...the stupid individuals who choose not to belt up are usually the ones who die in road accidents.

I will not even put the key in the ignition unless the passengers are belted in. If the don't they get belted up:)

Or is it just an effort for you to stall your embarassment when the Geneatric Toyota diesel doesn't start in front of all of your drinking buddies :finger: :finger:

seriously it is just a common reaction that when I get into a car I belt up.

I remember Jimmy's Laguna had a guy with an annoying British accent that said "Your seatbelt is not fastend" over and over

I feel uncomfortable without my seat belt on.

Even though I do know of a freak accident in which the only belted person (riding in the back) was the only person killed, that won't stop me from buckling up.

I just feel more secure, in both the front and back.

I used to not buckle up all the time - especially if I was just going down the street. My past 2 girlfriends succeeded in riding my ass to the point that I became paranoid about it just like them.

I just feel more secure, in both the front and back. The same for me too. It just feels strange without it on. I’ve only ever forgotten to put it on once and that was because I was driving a different car and was adjusting all the mirrors, seat, etc and totally forgot about the belt.

Reasons to buckle up.... (http://regentsprep.org/Regents/physics/phys01/accident/default.htm)

The best video is passenger kills driver. This is why your passengers must ALWAYS wear seatbelts.

I always buckle..my mom drilled that into me as a child. My boyfriend used to argue with me about buckling up...but then back in Feb., I totaled my car (wasn't cited, thanks very much) and my seatbelt latched but his didn't. He was able to see even in a 25mph collision how much more pain he was in...and I haven't had to tell him to put his seatbelt on since.

And most of the time,it happens when you least expect it

I'm digging this thread up again..because on Sun. a family of four rolled their 2001 Nissan Frontier about 20 miles out of town...none of them were belted. The parents were ejected and landed in the median. Both died. The 2yr old and 5yr old children landed in southbound traffic. Both are in critical condition.

I work at a newspaper, and pay intense attention to car accidents locally..in the past year and a half that I have been working here, every traffic fatality has been to an unbelted person.
