A variety of questions...

Okay, here are the questions I am curious about... I have a 95 s10 blazer lt 4dr 4wd.

Numero uno... Is there anybody who has a guide on performing a vacuum leak check on this car? I'm sure i have one somewhere, and it's really annoying to have the cold air come out the defroster vents instead of the cabin ones when i'm on the freeway.


Number two... I'm looking at ways to mount a Barbecue into the back of the blazer... I want it to be mounted inside, the mounting on the bottom of the bbq is only 4 bolts, there must be about 3" of clearance underneath the bbq for the regulator and hoses, it needs to swing or slide out past the tailgate, so that there is no problem with drips or heat damage to the gate, and it must be removable. Any ideas on a basic type of mount I should do to make this work?

Number three... Does anybody have a link to a guide on refinishing plastic? I want to redo the interior, and the only thing boggling my mind is how to recolor the plastic. I have had many problems with painting plastic only to have the paint peel or scratch off. Any Help?

And that's it for now... If there's anything else on here that I think of, I'll start a new thread so as not to overcrowd this one.

1.) Check the hose going to the vacuum ball in the drivers side back corner of the engine bay, the hose connected to it often takes a crap.

For your plastics, check out KRYLON FUSION. I painted my grille and some interior parts with it and its hard as a rock. No chips or knicks in the grille yet (been 2 months). Hobes this helps at all.

For the BBQ: I would use some angle iron to mount the grill on. Maybe find a good location on one of the truck sides to mount a bracket /hinge to. Aluminum might even be better cause it dissapaits heat faster. Just something that comes to mind. Use your imagination.

I do have some angle iron that I am mounting the bbq on... What I was looking for, lol BlazerLT, is any suggestions on mounting system. I was going to use some elevated shelf rails after checking the weight capacity of them, but they do not extend far enough out to completely pass the gate, and I do not want heat damage to the gate or drippings or anything like that.


As far as the vacuum goes, I checked all hoses on and around the ball and replaced them because they were worn as all hell, but I don't know where else to check. :banghead:

Thanks for the tips on painting the plastic. I plan on not just doing the interior trim pieces, but the entire dash, and want to make sure it's not going to look like crap when done.

Krylon Fusion is some a good product comes in bombs so if you don't have compressor and paint equipment you can diy. Doing interior pieces is hardest because you have to get them CLEAN of all the stuff you have put on the like Armor All, STP or any of the other stuff to make them shine that ain't nothing but silicone and silicone and paint don't mix. We are talking fish eyes and all kind of weird stuff going on. You need to wash it about 10 times in soapy water and NAPA or any paint supplier sells a prep just for plastic, go over it a few times with it. Then spray light even coats.
P.S. If the pieces have a slick finish I would use a fine Scotch-Brite pad the first two times washing the pieces. If the pieces are textured I would be real easy and only do one or your design might rub off.

To clean the Armor All off of the plastic use a 50/50 mix of vinger and distilled water. Just put it in a spray bottle and let it set for 30 seconds. Then wipe it off with clean terry cloth rags. Just make sure you only use 1 side for each pass. If you don't you'll just smear it around and cause more work for yourself.

That's a new one on me, never tried it. I will stick it on my cork board and try it on the next interior job I have. Thanks
