I have a 95 Olds Silhouette. It needs an inner Tie-Rod. Anyway I looked in the dealer repair manual that I have and it says to install the tie rod then torque to 74 lbs. After it's torqued it is suposed to be "staked". What is staking? It has a picture of the parts put together and a hammer and what looks like a punch. The picture is poor though. I am assuming you punch the tie rod end in hopes that it will not come back off. Am I correct? Also will locktite work?
TIA

You should be " staking" the area of the inner tie rod that threads onto the rack end, the outer diameter of the threaded area then pinches the threads in against the attaching threads.
