Spray on bedliner

The other post got me curious...

What is you guys opinion on the spray in bedliners? I checked into it and they want $450 to do it here and I can buy the stuff from the hardware store for $99. I heard it is not as good. Any Suggestions.

It's not any good. Go ahead and spend the extra 3 bills and get it done right. You'll be glad you did.

it is just as good as the stuff a shop does, but there is no way in hell that you can do the job in as good of a quality as the shop can. trust me, i tried putting some on the floorboards in my 73 chevy c-10 im restoring and it is a constant flurry of cussing when little stringers fling off the roller and land on that fresh new paint i spent months putting on the truck lol it was horrible, though i quickly utilized a brush and things went a little more smoothly. it is a very surprisingly tedious process and it will never look good unless you pay some pros to do it.

Dont they use a paint sprayer, but just one that uses a bigger nozzle.

Spray on bedliners are only as good as the installer. The pros can put on a much thicker coat than you will get doing it yourself, but get references. I have seen these things peel because they weren't prepped properly. I have seen some pretty shitty jobs come out of one of the local shops. One of the other shops do a really fine job............like I said get references.

stuff in the hardware store for 100 dollars is for a gallon of thick paint. the good sprayed on liner such as ultimate sprayed on polyurethane or the xtreme hi pressure polyurea spray is applied up to 1/4 inch thick and on an 8 foot bed over 7 gallons are applied. take your hardware variety of one gallon and multiply that times 7 and you are at 700 dollars just for the materia and then labor. But you cannot put it on that thick because of the type of material it is for sure. It is a bargain for 450 dollars to have your truck sprayed.. It has to be sprayed by a dealer because of the special mix equipment, and it dries in seconds, and you can beat the heck out of it, lifetime warranty, and adds lots of resale value to your truck. yes, linex is pretty good, but xtreme by ultimate is up one on linex because linex is 35% polyurea and 65% polyurethane, in which Xtreme linings is 70% polyurea and 30% polyurethane. tougher and less fade resistant because polyurea is much more uv stable.

The more polyurea the harder it is - also the more like steel it feels like - also the more stuff slides around - also less vibration dampening. I just did my own spray in bedliner. It is awesome. I used a paint code and used about a pint or more to tint it. I got a kit from Eastwoodco.com It is the SEM Pro-Tex gallon size tintable kit. COmes with all the goodies you need. This is the newer formula they have that retains gloss, and is more durable.
