Engine Trouble

I recently purchased a 1986 RX-7 with the hopes of restoring it. I went in to it knowing the brakes were bad but I did not anticipate too much trouble with the engine. I went to start the car after bleeding the brakes and nothing. I checked the plugs and replaced them. It started right up, but know all that comes out is thick white smoke (alot of it too), and it runs for only a couple of seconds. The guy I bought it from said to disconnect the battery to reset the computer and then try it again but just keep it running to lean out the engine. Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

it means that you have water in your car's system, probably blew a head gasket... that is what i would think...

I have figured out my problem. I forgot to reconnect the small hose that comes out of the bottom of the intake after i replaced the intake hose. I runs as good as when I picked it up. Thanks for all your help.
