Here is proof that Dex Cool coolant is worthless.:nono: I have use nothing but dex cool and have flushed out the radiator and cooling system twice since owning the car. So much for "good for 5 years / extended life" what a load of bull.:banghead:
Now I know that the water passages in a cylinder head are not supposed to get blocked.

There is millions of GM cars that use it with no problems.
You need to figure out why yours is giving problems.
Dexcool or green or any other coolant will give problems if the coolant system is not keep serviced and up to par.
First thing is low coolant or air getting into the system.

So what you are telling me that even though I serviced my cooling system more than once, including flushing it out, in the FIVE years since the car has been in existence. Even though dex cool is supposed an extended life antifreeze good for 5 years or what ever it says. And that because I did not bleed every minute trace of air from the cooling system, which may take FOREVER. Or I didn't hold my mouth right , or dance a jig while praying to the dexcool gods to pass over my poorly engineered GM engine's gaskets, or offer up my first born, that it's my fault it did it.

COME ON MAN!!!

When thousands on thousands of cars have the same issues, with the same coolant, that sould be a clue. But... becuase it isn't causing you to swerve, flip over and kill yourself while driving down the interstate ( kudos to Firestone and Ford for fixing their problem) it is the consumers fault and not that of the manufacturer. PLEASE KILL ME NOW:banghead:

I have seen engines that have been setting for over 5 years and not have any thing other than a little rust and oxidation, NOT PINK or GREEN GEL or leaking gaskets or corroded parts. I know when all the people I talk to at the Parts houses (ASE certified, some Master techs even) Say you are better to flush it and go with the Green stuff, something is up.

So hear is my opinion:2cents: , stay with dex cool change it every 5 years, if you are lucky, along with your intake gaskets, water pumps and what ever else it destroys...OR... Go Green and have the hassle of checking and possibly changing coolant every year. My money is on the Green.

I bought an 02 express 1 ton (new), as part of my fleet, and I was the only one that drove this one.

I put 100k on it in about 15 months (total absolute perfect maintenance), and did the fluid flush then (I didn't even think of waiting to 150k - as I found out later was acceptable). Ha!

I got a dex-cool 'plug' out of the radiator drain hole.

Then I heard about the goo problem from a dealer tech. Probably only on poorly maintained cars? Mine wasn't. Since then, I've bought 3 other dex-cool equipped vehicles. One had 65k on it, one had 90k, the other had 114k. Each had the 'plug'.

dex-cool is battin' 1000.

And now that I think on the 02 express, which is sold, it had a problem with a ‘heater control valve, in the heater core line. I’m guessin’ in retrospect, that the valve was blocked mechanically by another ‘plug’, which didn’t flush, despite repetitive flushes…

No problems with any of the vehicles, just concern about the 'plugs' ...

Glad you haven't had any major problems and you may never have any.

I just think it is kind of crappy to put a label on a vehicle telling the customer that they dont ahve to change their anti freeze for 5 years or 150,000 miles. If they know the stuff is not lasting that long in certain vehicle why not change the service intervals. My car has less than 120K on it and like I said earlier its been change twice and flushed once.

And as far as the people screaming AIR IN THE SYSTEM, My tank has a mark for filling it up. It has air left in the tank when it is filled. The only way not to have the coolant exposed to air is to fill it to the top, NOT GOOD.
The only way, I see, to get air in the system is for it to be sucked past a gasket when the engine cools. This sounds weird but hey its GM anything is possible.

I know that there are vehicle that run dexcool and last till they fall apart structually, and have no coolant problems at all. But the Malibu just doesn't have a good record. GM should see this and realize "there is something wrong with our product".
