93 Geo, no start.

Hiya. Just tripped on in from the Saturn section to ask about a 93 Geo I'm trying to get running. The darn thing has spark, fuel and compression but it just won't fire. It has throttle body injection and as I was peeking in on it it seemed like it was just dumping too much gas and fouling the plugs right away. We replaced the upper throttle body with a used one from a running car and it still won't go. Timing belt is not broken. (If it was there wouldn't be spark) I'm baffled unless there is some obscure thing these things do that I don't know about. I've tried everything I can think of and I can think of alot.

Any help would be great.

No, I usually participate in the Saturn forums but I came here because I'm having trouble with a 93 Geo.

Does the motor try to start or does it just crank? Make sure you are getting fuel to the engine. When I got my Geo running that had been setting for a few years, I had to pour a little gas in the fuel injection chamber to get it to crank, but it would then die. I had to replace my fuel pump and it then started. Secondly, if you are getting gas and spark, are you sure the engine is timed correctly? Are their any electrical connections not plugged in? I read an earlier post where someone replaced their motor but did not have the connecting wires for the egr and it would not start. Hope you get it running again.

As stated above, it is getting gas, spark and has compression. The ignition timing is correct but now that I think of it, I could have a timing belt that has slipped but not completly broken. I don't have a compression tester, but if I could get a hold of one, what would be the norm for these engines and what would be low enough to make it not even run?

I don't have a compression gauge.

how do you know it has compression then? takes at least 90 psi for cylinder to fire. compressio with throttle open and all plugs out should be at least 170 psi per cyl

hey cat. had you ever solve the problem? cuz i'm having a same situation like yours. it seems it's pouring too much fuel from the injector. and it flood the engine.

Ive had similer problems. welcome to 2006, "BAD OLD GAS" dont burn after it sets, "and turns to gunji" after a small amount of sitting up time.

olot of times if you have injectors shooting too much gas. youl get missing popping or the manifold will turn cherry red.
