I have eliminated the climate control unit as the problem. I sent it away to be repaired, and it is fully functional. But my dilemma remains. Middle setting, vents across the dash, do not function. I spoke to an expert and he told me that the vacuum line may be worn out and suggested that I use a quick fix from a wd-40 can extension to fix it. The only problem is that when I look behind the glovebox, I can't locate the vacuum lines as he described. He said that they have different colors, but the only different colored lines that I can find are very small in diameter and I am not sure if they are electrical? Where are they???

First do you have vacuum coming into the passenger compartment? It is a small violet colored lline (1/8 inch dia) from the engine compartment that connects to the black line. It is viewable from under the dash with the passenger hush panel removed. When the motor is running, is there vacuum on the end of that line?
For the rest of it

There are the lines you had to remove to send the programmer out. If you have vacuum try switching modes and feeling the vacuum motors above the accelerator pedal with the motor running. One of these is the vacuum motor that closes off the defroster ducting and forces that air to come out the dash vents for air condition.
If you need, I can check a service manual for the colors.

i had the same problem... it turned out that the vacum line above my enjine was dryrotted. it is connected to the cruse control module, and also connects into the top of your enjine.

Your vacuum tank on the firewall where all of the lines connect could be the problem as well

If you do find you don't have vacuum inside the car, the vacuum lines under the hood should go from the intake manifold to the passenger side near the dryer for the air conditioning. The 1/8 inch black tube is taped into a bundle of wires, if I recall correctly. There will be a "y" connector with a tube running to the passenger front of the car. Under the right front fender is where your vacuum storage tank is located. You must crawl under the car. I'd recommend pulling the vacuum line off there immediately after shutting off the car to see if there is vacuum stored in the tank.
To see the Y connector you may have to take offr the cover for the Maxifuse relay. Just plastic clips hold it in place.
