I would google the truck for some groups involved in those old trucks or get a Hemmings news for some info, I do not recognize that engine displacement for a 6 or 8 cyl.

I'm not sure about the engine size, but I do know that it is a V8. My grandpa just told me that he thinks it is a 338 or 339, how can I find out what option sizes were availible? Could I do that through a GMC Dealership? I foud out that all the paper work is shrdded up and has other crap aroud it (litteraly). I have googled it but havent found anything, is there any way that I can use the vin number? It will be a little while before I can even get that though. What is the hemmings news?

You need to research this further, Hemminings news a publication that sells parts and cars worldwide, you cannot just pluck info out of the air, gear ratios are different in those trucks based on build options. Find what engine it is by looking at the codes on the block casting, get a book on old Chevy pick ups, self help is in order here.

it's a 348 cu. in V8 I think the model is a 150 but am not sure. A GMC dealer can't tell me any thing about the vin because it is to old

That was the original truck block that was used for the later 348/409 Chevy hot engines from 58-65.

I saw that yesterday, I think I have most of the info I need. What would the differential gears have to be to run down the road at a decent rpm range at 65mph? I also can't seem to find a fuel pump for that, everything else but that and pistons,

Depending on tire size, maybe 3.55:1 You won't be going to fast with that truck. Try Kanter.com

It has a ratio of 4.56 i think, my grandpa just wants to be able to drive down the highway at lower rpm's
