Burning Oil...

i think my car is burning oil, cause i just fixed and oil leak like a week ago. they gave my car a full oil change, using 10W40 oil. today, the check oil light came on and i checked it, and it showed i had like barely a drop of oil left. it burned so quick. i called the body shop up and they told me i might have to replace my piston rings, will this solve my problem? im going to put in 20W50 oil and see if it still burns fast. i hope not... :(

Have your mechanic do a compression check. It will tell you if your rings are bad or not.

Good luck

I'm wonderin...

I wonder if there is a problem with the oil filter not secured properly and oil coming out that way???...

im just going to wait for about another 1500 miles and see if i am burning oil too fast. i hope not, cause theres more money that could be spent on mods. :bloated: can you think of any other reason, other than the piston rings, why it would burn the oil so fast?

If you're burnin' oil...I would think that your exhaust would have some white smoke to it? Is this the case? can you see or have someone else look?

Get someone to follow you and then tell you if its coming out your exhaust.....one of the best ways.

If there's no oil leaks that you can see i'd go and get the compression test done.

Check your plugs and see what they look like...is there oil on them ??

Does your car smoke really bad at start up......may be the valve seals ?

But if its using it as fast as you say it is and there are no leaks....i'd say shes burning it.:( :(

ill have someone follow me and see if it smokes. im going to get the compression test done in another 1500 miles if it still burns quick. my car doesnt smoke at all, at least i dont see any. i just changed my valve cover and oil pan gaskets, oil pressure switch, front crank seal, and output shaft seal recently. what other things could cause it to burn it, other than bad piston rings?

:frog: I think that some of them are heading you in the right area but a leak down test is a better way of finding your problem. A compression test can still show good cylinders. But a cylinder can still be bad. Just a helping hand dude:frog: [SIZE=3][FONT=courier new][COLOR=limegreen][FONT=times new roman][SIZE=4]
