Hey everybody. You probably haven't noticed but lately I haven't been on the forums as regularly as usual. Well you know school started back and I've been working on the ride a little. Anyways. My parents have told me not to drive for 2 weeks...for speeding or something, its BS basically. At first I was kinda pissed because I wouldn't be able to drive the ride to school, but now I'm happy because these 2 weeks are the perfect time to do my 60k maintanence (cars at like 62,xxx).
I knew it would take a while to do it and we dont have a garage or anything to do it in. But we do have a building behind the house that was once used for storing stock from my mom's clothing busines which has since went to crap. Theres still alot of clothes in boxes on shelves so me and some boys took some floor jacks and moved some of the shelves out of the way to have room to work in there. The next problem was the building has 2 double doors and I was unsure if the car would fit inside. So I drove the in up to the mirrors and then the mirrors had to go so I took them off. It was still an extremly close fit but I got it in.
Anways, I'm changing the timing belt, tensioner, waterpump, and timing belt idler pully (the other pullys all looked good). After looking at my old T-belt I don't recomend anyone going longer than 60k between changes because my belt was stretched and slack and the tensioner was all the way out (and it was seized up). I have decided that while I have the motor apart to go ahead and do the BS elimination and add an AEM tru-time adjustable cam gear. I have already ordered all my parts and they will be in next week.
While waiting on the parts me and a home boy started disasimbling the car. We have unbolted everything on the drivers side of the block, lowered the engine, removed the oil pan and removed the oil pump housing cover along with the rear balance shaft. But now I'm stuck because I can't get this damn phillips head screw out of the oil pump housing. Its tourqed down and the more I twist on it the more the head wants to strip. Anyone have any suggestions? Heres a pic:

Also I just upgraded my Orion HCCA 12d sub with an Orion 12" 2 ohm H2 sub because the HCCA died. The H2 seems to be a really good speaker, and its purty. I havent really played with it much.

Anyways, I hope to have the car done by next monday. Tell me what you think and give me any suggestions. Here are some progress pics:

Looks like fun... I wish mine was back together at least that far. lol

You should just go ahead and modify your manifold for the turbo and such and just do it now while its all apart. Make your parents real happy and have it parked for another two weeks. lol

Car looks nice man, this is deff your chance to do some crazy mods why not do them while it's apart.

I've had the same problem before. I used a hand impact wrench. It's black, stubby, comes with a bunch of different screwdriver bits. What you do is put the correct bit in, then take a hammer and smack the other side. There is gears inside, so when you hit it with the hammer it trys to turn the screw loose. Works wonders.

Either that or you could use a reverse drill bit. You use it with the drill in reverse to try to extract the screw. The first idea is easier and might be safer so you dont drill into the case cover.

Thanks for the help. I was also thinking about an impact wrench and since my main man works at advanced auto he can probably borrow one. But if all else fails I'm going to a machine shop.

Was going to recommend the exact same thing. Really does work.

Heres another update. Today I went to Advance and bought an Impact driver. I came home and fiddled with it a bit and the stupid screw came right out. I recommend an impact driver to anyone in the same situation, because I'm very happy with it. After I did that I was able to take the rear oil pump housing apart and unbolt the rear balance shaft from the pully. As soon as my stubby shaft comes in I can bolt it up in its place and be good to go. Also I knocked out the two bearings for the front balance shaft, and as soon as my new bearings come in I can beat those in in the old ones' place and also be good to go on that too. So right now everything is disasembled and we are at a stand still until the parts come in. I will update again when more progress is made.

Those impact drivers are the SHIT. Saved my ass so many times. I'd love to meet the guy who invented those, I would shake his hand (maybe hug him)
