Deleting drivers?

Hey Guys-

If the computer gurus hang out here, this should be a joke for you. I've got Windows XP as my operating system, and my Asus motherboard can't "see" my Asus audio card. I was told I need to download a new chipset driver for audio utility from the Asus web site, and delete my invideo chipset driver. I can do step 1, but step 2 I am reluctant to mess with...

Your help is appreciated. Thanks-

-JD

At your desktop, hold the ALT button and double click my computer. Go to the "DEVICE MANAGER" Tab, and locate the sound video and game controllers icon. click the "+" next to it and locate the driver. Hit your delete key and tada!

now you can do whatever you need to from their... hope this helps

yep,

right click on my computer go to properties go to device manager, click the plus and delete the driver, but i'd do this before doing the new mb drivers install. you can always get it back.

So do you have onboard audio or a separate sound card?

No worries, XP has driver rollback. If you mess something up you will be able to fix it.

Well, system Restore works good for some things also. And if you need to boot, you can use the recovery console to restore your old registry (original), which should let you boot, then a use system restore to restore your comp to what it used to be. If you want to learn how to do this, just post here. IT is involved, and I dont think like posting it now.

Damn. Sorry I let this go for so long without responding. Then again, I didn't get a response to my post for about three weeks, so I geuss it's all good.

Anyway, their solution worked. I downloaded Asus' newest chipset driver for audio utility, and delete my invideo chipset driver. Rebooted, and with the most minor of retooling, I have full audio and video capabilities. Thanks for all the helpful responses, guys!!

And Neutrino, yes, I do have a separate audio card.
