Rode in a SHO tonight...

So has anybody else ever heard about or looked into 90-95 Ford Taurus SHO's? This kid at work was talkin about it to me anytime he had the chance and was asking me a bunch of questions about the necessities in turbocharging it. Him, amongst others at work know I'm into DSM's. Anyways, at first I thought it was a joke. Then he asks me if I wanna go for a ride in it. I thought, what the hell, why not... Holy shit... I shall never underestimate the ability of a Taurus again. This thing was beyond damn impressive for a stock Taurus. He launches it from this stop sign and I look over and in no time at all we were doing 60mph. I honestly think if he is serious about building the motor a little bit and eventually turbocharging it, then it could give the DSM's around here a damn good run for their money. The thing ran better than my Talon did when it was stock and I ran a 15.0 at the track when I was stock!

A buddy of mine bought one from the junk yard once for $500 and all it needed was a clutch. Those cars are fast as hell, hence the SHO (Super High Output)

WOW! They are rare as shit too. I have seen like 4-5 ever and that was in NYC. Never thought about them. Kind of weird to say 'taurus' and 'fast' in the same sentence......

Aren't they factory supercharged?

G-man422
09-02-2006, 03:11 PM
I dont think so. I'm pretty sure they were just tuned the heck out'a the engine.

Blackcrow64
09-02-2006, 04:24 PM
Yup, no supercharger. They are awesome. I can't imagine one being supercharged or turbocharged.

^ Exactly. i found the exact same info, and was about to post it, but you did first. Those are some impresive #s for a family sedan. Oh, wait, a Super High Output family sedan, lol

Blackcrow64

His is the 3.2 with an automatic... No wonder it felt like it would give my Talon a run. It would only be .2 seconds behind me!

Until my new setup is finished of course.

**EDIT**

Our first idea is to run the intake pipe down into the front and have it setup like a ram air system. I think that should help it a good bit. The stock filter is right next to the motor and takes on a ton of heat. Then I'll have him do a dual 2.5" exhaust the whole way out. I think those two things alone should help it to breath a lot better over the stock setup.

The supercharged car you're thinking of is the Ford Contour SVT. 200HP

He was saying something about his one friends getting a contour... Are they really sueprcharged?.. I never knew some of these family cars could be such beasts. Still won't touch an Evo though. lol

Bodack
09-05-2006, 05:24 PM
Yeah they are, but they're relatively high compression so there's not huge room for potential unless you upgrade internals. A guy I used to work with had one and it would definitely suprise you as a stock Contours. My car's basically stock minus the exhaust and I spank him all day long.

the svt contours are not supercharged they are the same thing a 3.0l 200hp 200lbs or torque. when i had my 99 cougar i did a 3.0l hybrid swap to that setup

My apologies. Apparently he got it from a used dealership from somebody that had supercharged theirs and then traded it in. You are correct. But it had a 2.5L instead of a 3L. Only 170 ft/lbs of torque though.

This guy I know has a SVT contour also and I raced him with a stock 2.4l cavy and kept up with him for a lil bit. I mean they are pretty quick cars but nothing really special until you do some engine upgrades.

the svt contours are not supercharged they are the same thing a 3.0l 200hp 200lbs or torqueThey never made a SVT contour with a 3.0l engine in it. In.....

'98 the SVT contour was a 2.6L with 195hp and 165lb.

And then in '99 and '00 the SVT contours have the 2.5-liter Duratec V6, which makes 200 horsepower at 6600 rpm. and 170 ft-lbs at 5500 rpm.

are you forgetting such cars as wrx/sti, evo, is300, 90's impala with the LT1, galant vr4, spirit r/t, srt-4, GTP, if you want to include the new srt-8 line, the list goes on

well compared to cars of its time. (90'95) the 90's impala of course was one badass car!!!

*EDIT* So really you can count out the STI/WRX, EVO, IS 300, GTP, SRT4, and the SRT8 line.

You cannot consider evos, sti's, and srt-4's as family sedans dude... Cause they're not sedans. I consider them sporty 4 doors... And GTP's are 2 door cars...

I am not saying that these cars are not impressive. I mean come on dude. A damn Taurus is not supposed to be a powerful car. Its an old mans car.

gtps are both a coupe and sedan and technically anything with 4 doors is a sedan unless its a wagon or something but the spirit r/t was the fastest production 4 cylinder for most all of the 90's there are alot of cars out there or the omni glh-s or the turbo caravans were pretty sweet to
