Keep or sell?

2000 Eclipse GT, stock

I'm currently deployed to Iraq, and will be replacing the basics (tires, belts, fluids, pads) when I get back. However, i've considered selling it and buying and island beater car (with really cheap insurance). This would allow me to save to buy a new car in 4 yrs when I get out for school.

Is the eclipse really worth keeping, having to worry about rust, damage, and theft (which are all really high in Hawaii), and not really having the time to mod it to my pleasure due to deployments? The resell value of it is now $8k.

Any opinions would be helpful

Is the eclipse payed for yet? If so I would say keep it. If it's not can you afford to keep it and go to school? I know it has to suck to be spending money for it just to sit there. As long as I can afford it I dont think I will ever get rid of my 3g. I guess it comes down to how much you like your 3g.

if it looks like its in great condition I would say sell. If it already has rust spots or looks run down I would say you got yourself a beater. Either way I would not replace the "tires, belts, pads" and only do the fluids if your going to be selling in a while and not immediately you wont get the money back from the investment.

I agree. If the car is already payed for then there is no reason to get rid of it even if you have to fix those things. If you are talking a few years left on the payment and going to put you in a finanical bind while your in college then you probably would ne beest just to let her go.

It's always been my dream car, and it'll be paid off in 2 months if I continue with the loan payments.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii, 3/3 Lima for 808drifter.

I guess I may keep it, and see what I can do between deployments. If I reenlist I'm going to try and get a duty station other than Hawaii, away from the rust.

Now it's just a matter of getting it into shape to be upgraded

Okay, now if certain parts sh*t the bed, should I junk it?

And the next question is, what parts should die that would make me junk it?
