floor mounted dimmer switch conversion

I REALLY hate the steering collum mounted dimmer switches that all cars have nowadays. they are so awkward to use if you are holding a cup of coffee, or a cigarette, etc. , etc. I would love to put a floor mounted, foot operated dimmer switch on my 98 4runner, but I wonder how "do-able" it would be. I suppose that with a wiring diagram that one couldcut the wires to the stock switch and add new ones to the floor switch. Anyone ever do a conversion like this ?

Up until the late 70's or so the dimmer switch was mounted on the floor (upper left corner of the pedal area) in American cars. When Japanese cars started flooding the American market, American car makers gradually adopted their column mounted switch.

And yes, it's simple to do. You can get the heavy duty push-on/push-off switch you need in the "HELP" section that most auto parts have. Yo9u'll probably have to make a mounting bracket yourself.
