Ok, this might sound really dumb, but how are you supposed to search this forum? If I type something in the "search" box, and click on one of the results, it brings me back to the BEGINNING OF THE FORUM, which is useless! I might as well just look through the hundreds of pages and open each thread to find what I want. That would not be fun, or practical. What am I missing, or is this just the way it is?

when you type something in the ''search this forum'' thing it should take you to all the posts that have to do with what you typed in. (if any of that makes sense)

There's three ways:
The actual advanced search page:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/search.php
That page has the full range of options, and you can restrict your search to just this forum and its subforums.
There's two other search boxes.
One is in every page header, it just says "Search," and it's a little pull down box. If you use this, you'll search ALL OF AF, which is a lot more that just the modeling forum.
On the top of only the forum index pages, at the top of the thread listing is an option that says "Search this forum." It is context sensitive to the forum you're in, so your results will be resticted. This will work for you.
Also, the results are restricted to 100 results. Most of the time the results are displayed in decending order, showing you the most recent stuff at the top. Sometimes, if you make the same search twice (or are impatient and hit refresh when it's searching) the results will come back in ascending order, so you'll se a bunch of old stuff.

Thanks guys, that was indeed really dumb. I was totally ignoring the nice pull-down "Search" feature and using the Google or AF search thing at the top of the page. Duh. Please forgive me and don't boot me from AF for such nonsense (I know you wouldn't, but I might if I were in charge :) ) Thanks again. That works.

^Well I'm glad you now understand it correctly and I really would hope they wouldnt ban someone just because they dont know how to search lol
PS I know you were joking about the whole booting thing.

It's not dumb, it was a couple weeks before I figured out there were two different searches - the one at the bottom of the page by "Google" and the one at the top in the menu bar. For those two weeks I was furious that searching here was so difficult, then I discovered the real search function....
