I use just Microsol, almsot exclusively. Here is what I do.
Decal goes on smooth, gloss covered parts for best adhesion.
1. Cut out your decal, trying to cut close to actual letters or image, to eliminate the clear carrier film.
2. Place decal in warm water dish to soak for 10-20 seconds. They should be able to easily slide off the backing paper.
3. Place and position decal on the body where placement is ideal.
4. Take Microsol's built in brush (or take your own wide, soft brush) and begin by applying a thin layer all over the decal.
5. WAIT. This is a crucial step because the decal will look like it is destroyed, wrinkled or creased. It is not. It is just "melting".
6. After about a minute, take the brush without any Microsol on it and begin to brush the decal gentaly placing it in place and over any creases and clearing any air-bubles. When the decal is completely flat you are satisfied with its placement, adherence to the surface and over the creases, bolts or seams, brush a little more Microsol and let it dry over night.

Try the search function. This question REALLY has been asked and answered about a million times.
If anything is still unclear after that, come back with a more specific question.

adding just a little drop of washing-up liquid to your decal water will make it infinitely easier to slide them around, that's what i do and it's much better.

The last thing you want to do is be moving the decal once you have placed Microsol on it.
My advice is to read everyone's advice and then go from there - each of us have found different ways to work with decals that work best for us.
As for moving decals and even touching them after brushing on microsol, my advice is not to touch them - microsol places them at their most susceptable to damage. Some decals allow you to work with them after applying microsol, but your best bet there is to test every decal sheet before assuming you can do so - most decal sheets have a few throwaway decals on them - use these to test decal compatibility to solvents.
Not all decals are even compatible to solvents and setting solutions, be careful.

I'll echo what Ray said. Once you put MicroSol on the decal it becomes soft and tears easily. Dont use microsol until its perfectly in place.
