engine hits wall around 6k rpm, not sure why?

Ok, its an old problem that i thougt i would just live with but i am getting tired of it. i thought it might have been my old turbo going out or something so i replaced. well needless to say, it is doing the same thing still. what happenes is when i drive hard the engine feels like it his a brick wall around 5500-6k, that the only way i can explain it. it won't let me get passed it and and it doesn't buck like a bronco and keep doing it. it just hit's real hard once and i have to step on the clutch and let rpm's fall. i bought it like that about a year ago. it is a 97 gst. i figured i wouldn't worry about since i don't need to be drivin like a maniac anyways, but, i need to get it fixed because i am sure it isn't good for the car. any ideas? i did a leak test on my turbo to see if a leak might have caused this but no leaks. one more thing, the ceck engine light goes on when it does it and stays on till i reset it.

Is this in every gear and how fast are you going when it usually happens? It sounds like a boost leak...you might want to retest. Also, check your spark plugs and make sure they are in good shape and gapped correctly (0.028")

yea, it happenes every single gear. i've cheacked plenty of times for boost leaks on this turbo and my other one, and tore down my stock setup and put it all back together again, almost positive it isn't a boost leak. my sparkies are great and are gapped to perfectiong. are ar as how ast i am going, it's a 5spd, but 5500-8k in each gear is where it lets me hit, i'm no expert but what about a fuel cut?

Do you have a logger? Because that would probably help tremendously.

I was thinking the same thing, and if you do, then please let me know because I don't feel like shelling out money for Link right now.

I'm sorry, it is 5500-6k. not 8k.... i have never gotten passed 6k rpm unless in neutral. yes, i take car of it, no doggin here.if had a dsm dogged out and it gets expensive. like let's say if i'm on the on ramp to get on the highway. i have to slowly get up there in 5th because if i try to get on it in 4th..brick wall. and no mods at all. bone stock. i had to waste alot of money to buy another motor as soon as i bought it(i locked it up rigt after i got it towed to my house). motor 2000,swap600, take out again because head gasket no good 600, water pump..not sure, new turbo 225. gets expensive and that was the first month and a half. but i bought it for 2300 so what do you expect? sorry about the change subject, just giving some background. but i'm not sure what it's problem is. anymore ideas? also one more last thing. if my car is in neutral, and i leave my foot on the gas to red line, it hits redline and bogs down a couple of K's then hits again thens bogs....not sure i that has anything to do with it but....sigh thanks for the help if you have any

nah it doesn't feel anything like a broken motor mount. even if it was, how would it not let get any where near red line? coil? maybe, not sure. i'll go to autozone tonight and see what comes up

I was lookin around some threads and thought of something. The ISC maybe! See my idle is at 1800 and drops down to about 1300 when in gear. could the ISC just be messed up to where it is just open and at higher speed/rpm it gets to much air? I've said it before and i'll say it now, I am no expert. i am jsut trying to get my car fixed and save some money from a shop so if i am totally off, take it easy on me. just an idea

I know this is a bit off subject, but you got ripped a new asshole by buying a motor for $2000!! And when you floor it and it redlines and bogs down and bounces like that, it's hitting the rev limiter so you don't blow your engine to pieces.

I don't think it is a rev limiter. It hits way too hard or it to be the rev limiter when i'm driving. When in neutral then yea I can see how it might be the rev limiter but while driving, it hits hard. I know I got kinda ripped off, you don't know the half of it. I ordered it from RimsandThings.com. Said motor was imported from Japan and would fit perfectly into my car, NOT! Took them 2 months to get it down here to Texas because they said they couldn't find my address the first time it was shipped (oh yea I got it for 1400 and shipping was 600). I take it to the shop and the mechanic is somewhat of a DSM expert says he has to take everything of the block because they are completely different parts and the only thing he could use on the new motor was just the block itself. It came with automatic tranny but I have no use for it so I left it there too. What a dumbass I could have sold a GST auto tranny to someone who needed insted of giving it to him for free. He bought that new turbo off me for 200 because he as a "project talon" he will be working on. Total price for a motor, swap and labor came out to about 4-5k.needless to say I got done dirty in the asshole with no lube and everyone got a piece then left me there soar and bleeding. Again, sorry about the change subject, I’m a newbie and just giving you some more insight on my car.

Haha that post was quite the read, but the rev limiter I was talking about was in neutral, not when you're driving it.

Hey my car is having problem something like that but it does go pass 4k rpm in 2-5 gear and my mechanic told me it might be the ISC, and another thing this only started happening when my speed sensor went crazy so gonna change the speed sensor first and see wat happens.

I had the same problem with my ISC sensor and after i changed it seemed to do fine after it reset itself.

The only speedo problem I had was that the car wouldn't go above like 45 mph. and I couldn't tromp on it without the damn thing boggin down.

and how did u fix that speedo problem ,cause my speedo is jumping all over the place, sp like when I am in 2nd gear somtimes it says im going 100mph and when get around 4k rpm it bogs down
EclipseOI

my car stopped boggin down after I changed the ISC sensor. but that sounds like a speed sensor because of your needle jumpin around, my speedo wasn't jumpin around ,my car just wasn't going above 45mph.

it's weird you say that, i didn't think my speedo had anything to do with it so i didn't thread it with this subject. but my speedo doesn't work period, but at high rpm's it will jump but thats about it. what what should i change my speedo sensor or the isc?
EclipseOI

I would try the least expensive one if ur gonna try to fix it and if ur not sure.I havn't priced a speed sensor, but a ISC sensor shouldn't break ya. but ya never know it could be something totally unrelated (check engine light on= gas cap not tight):screwy:

I am just gonna change the speed sensor first and see wat happens cause it the least expensive, from the dealer is like $75,then i'll chage the ISC cause I need to change it anyway cause my car idles like shit when I start it in the morning

I installed the speed sensor today and it fixed my 4k rpm limit, high rpms never felt so good, but I still need to buy that IAC to fix my idle problem but other than that every thing is ok

The speed sensor was $75 from the dealership and it is located on the tranny kinda below the TB but it is a real pain to get to the bolts to unscrew.but before buying the sensor u should make sure that the speed sensor gear isn't worn down, and to replace that is gonna be like $12.
