Check Engine Light

I just bought a 1995 900S with 85,000 miles on it from a friend. The check engine light stays on. My friend says he had his mechanic check it out 2 years ago and says there's nothing wrong. Can I go to a parts place and get code reader and clear it (like I've done with my Ford) or do you suppose it's actually a malfunctioning Check Engine light?
Thanks in advance.

Hi daniel.
Check engine light generally means that you need to replace the Oxigen senser.
It's a good idea to find a good Saab independent mechanic for your Saab. It's not a car that your local filling station should work on. PM me if you need help with that.
