2001 T&C power window motor replacement

Hi, I've replaced the right side power window motor/reg assembly in my wife's 2001 T&C but I have not been able to wind the cables back up properly. Have spents hours trying to figure it out...does anyone have any experience with this? Do they have to be very tightly wound with no slack? If so, is there a trick for doing that? Thanks very much.
