I really cant tell you all the little differences. Most are minor but the main difference is that the best ZC has ZC stamped on the block, the valve cover bolts are on the edge of the cover instead on the inside near the plug wires. the valve cover should be black. I also believe the 1st gen ZC is SOHC. I would not bother to put any in your car unless you get the one that is rated at 135.

As far as putting one in your car goes, you should get a different tranny other than your DX one. My friend has a 91DX with a ZC and it SUCKS! so slow. I myself have a ZC tranny but this is not very easy to use because of the axle situation. Place racing claims to have axles that will work well but I do not know because I do not have them. Most people go with the SI or LX tranny and are very pleased with the results. The ZC tranny does have the better final drive. making the gears closer. Top end rpms are high though. 75mph turns at like 4300 rpms in my car in fifth. But it does make for nice passing power. No downshifting like normal hondas. I believe with a DX you will have to change your hubs as well. I had to change mine but I had a STD model civic. By the time you do all this I would consider doing the B16a. I dont regret doing the ZC because I am lucky enough to have a very strong running ZC that has smoked its fair share of B16s, but my car is also very light and stripped out to begin with.

how much did you spend for everything and how long did it take? were there a lot of problems?

Yup those are the ones. I spent a considerable amount but I also replaced every part that could go wrong. Belts, plugs, etc. I also did all the bolt ons at once too. I spent around 3 grand. the engine swap didnt take long, it was making a set of axles work with my tranny that took awhile. If you go with an SI trans the swap should be done in a day, two at the most. A friend did one in his CRX Si, it took him 5 hours. Never did it before either. Make sure if you get a ZC to get a leak down test and compression check run on the motor. Dont accept anything less than 140 psi per cylinder for compression. Honda states 135psi per cylinder is minimal tolerance. Anything less and you have yourself a beat ZC which is pretty common. Check out ZCspeed.com, it is a nice site that can help you with any other questions.

thanks...gave me lotsa info...btw...how much would the leakdown and compression test cost? does it take long? and how much did you pay for your ZC...is $950 good for transmission, Engine, ECU, LSD?

Like I said some places online provide a printout of leakdown and compression test. But if you dont trust it and wanted to see it firsthand then it should cost between 50- 75 dollars. 950 is a sweet deal if youre getting LSD with your tranny. Which ecu are they giving you? the PM7 is the real ZC ecu. It is very rare. A PM6 (88-89 integra) works well. That is the ecu that is in my car now. I think it could use better fuel maps though. Some people use a chipped 88-91 SI ecu. Mugen makes a chip for this ecu that is great. I cant really say how much I paid for my motor itself. My bill wasnt itemized. I got the motor, trans, ecu, axles and hubs installed for 1600. Make sure if you do decide to do this swap to do the tune up stuff like plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump, etc. Do it now or regret it later.
