Re-return of the SVS prt III

Well a while back I had a body control Mod failure(p1610).
Was due to a leaking sunroof drain, fixed that.

Fixed the bcm by replacing the BCM with a good used bcm, I had on hand. Got the old one replaced with a new one under GM part warrnty, still in the box.

The light was gone for months now, but last night it just poped back on. Now with some other strange codes...:screwy:

p1610 -comunication error w/Bcm
p1630 -theft deterant system, PCM in learn mode
p1631 -theft deterant password incorrect.

So I know the last two are related, my questions is what would all the sudden cause these to to appear?

Could it been the key was left in the "on" position to long?
Or does anyone think the passlocks(theft deterant) systems going out?

I hav cleared the codes twice, but they always return.
I have not had any other warning lights on, like the security or anything. :nono:

The only thing I did before this was blow the bugs off my K&N filter.
I did touch one of the wires on the MAF because it was discoloured with black, made sure it wasnt oil from the filter.:eek7:
But its working fine from what I can see from my diagnostic endeavors.

Dont hav alot of time to spend on my own ride(s),
Just looking for any thoughts or ideas on this one guys.

Thanks JC

a bug is trying to steal your car...

just some thoughts...nowhere near a diagnosis

I don't think the key being left in the on position would have anything to do with the SVS light. What it sounds like to me is either the bcm is malfuncitoning or one of the contacts aren't making proper connection, so the car will start and run, but it'll trigger the code of communication error. If the Bcm is linked with the passlock system, then if there isn't proper signal or connection between the two then you'll get the -theft deterant system, PCM in learn mode- since it's resetting itself, then once it establishes a signal then it probably drops again it might bring the ---theft deterant password incorrect. This is just a thought. I would say check your BCM make sure it's connected well and there are no loose wires or connections. then if that checks out ok, i would check the passlock system see if there are loose wires there. Remember what you started out with bent prongs in your abs sensors... so you may come across more demons! good luck.

Ya Gir, if its not one thing, its another :shakehead

I figure tonight, I'll take it to the shop and do the case relearn.
Hopefully that'll take care of these Gremlins that keep trying to steal my car

I'm a couple steps ahead of you here grfnkl :D
Done been through all those and they're making connections. Checked all the fuses.... :uhoh:

I just thinking I still might hav a small sun roof leak , maybe, but doubtful!

I did try and pull the key out several days ago, when it was running
Trying to get that dinger to quit :banghead:

Looks like my free time this evening will be under the hood, so to speak :D
I hate working for free
 I guess I could pay myself ?!?

Given that little tidbit, I'd believe its a security issue. Passlock might be thinking someone tried to jack the car or something isn't making contact in the switch.

I still say a moth easily could jack ur car... :grinno:

Well took the car to my shop... still ahd all three codes showing.
Done the case relearn for the pcm and the codes are still thier :uhoh:
I even undone the DRL disable to doble check , but no dice.
So back to square one. :banghead:

Ya skibum, I checked out the ignition too, and its tight!
All the pins inside seem fairly well, compared to the SE , the key just pulls out when running
Tested a couple leads and the security is active/working.

I do hav a spare I can swap out, but thats last resort.
Think tomarrow I'll put in a new BCM and see if that takes care of it.

THink I need to get a new sun roof gasket!
OR silicone the POS up for good :angryfire

Maybe I should install one of those pest repellars you plug in :dunno: Or a hobit to ward off the gremlin(s)

Well the p1630 & p1631 just disapeared over night

Hum... Maybe it was just a fluke.
They didnt even show up in the history ,
guess the psm relearn cleared those.

But my BCM is toasted again. Havnt put in the new one yet, still going to research for any possible leaks.

Thankx for all your input guys!

Have a great weekend! :grinyes:

Well after digging deep into the rabbit hole today my problems are solved!

I was running a diagnostic scan and it was still showing the p1610, well I accedently hit the brake pedal and got another code, B something, it was my left rear tail light circut was shorted out. :shakehead
You would hav thought I'd notice that tail light not working, but how often do you get back there when you're foots on the brakes

Now to change it out for stock , or di I go Euro ....

HMMMM.... tail light shorting out causing the BCM to go crazy. Did you have to replace you BCM again, or was it still usable because of the tail light?

I guess i better be careful then, my tail light shorts out when it rains. so after this past weekend with all the rain my left signal doesn't work again. It melts the bulbs, so either i replace them or i pull out the wire from the melted plastic. I guess I better address this sooner then later.

I have come to find out this is very commen for the tails to short out due to water leakage
My SE messed up after we first got it and I cleaned and sealed it with silicone.
So my GT has been going in and out for the past month or so. Mine melts the bulbs tooo :shakehead

So I cleaned all the nasty parts, coated them with electrical cleaner(that repels moisture), and they are good to go.
The little tabs that touch the wires on the bulbs seems to get rusty/wet and causes the short.

Sealed the inner part(that holds the bulbs) in with silicone sealer. Then put alittle under the top plastic lip to keep h2o from running under and into the top of the lights.

Our GAs are leakmongrawls :grinyes:
The drains on the sun roofs are the killer! Both front and rear. Look around under the cover in your trunk sometime ;)
Thats why there is so many electrical gremlins with our cars!!

My BCM is fine, I guess, for now anyways. Till the next big rain. Which I hear will be saturday :angryfire

I'm still finding it hard to believe it messed with the BCM, but thats its job to monitor crap I dont pay attention too.

THink the code was B1001 -left rear taillight cuircut short ??

Probly should take a look anyway grfnkl, I think they do sell just the inner part that melts/messes up. Probly dealer part tho :disappoin
