Fuel Level Sensor resistance

Has anyone ever measured the resistance of their fuel level sensor? I'm getting the usual gas gauge not working. I took it out last night and it reads between 40 - 250 ohms. Also, has anyone ever have a b*tch of a time replacing the C-clip on the fuel pod?

The key to replacing the c-clip is to coat the o-ring with vaseline and the pod must be centered in the opening just right. Remember it is spring loaded. If it is even slightly cocked the c-clip is will difficult to install.

The resistance value doesn't look right. Also, check for linearity and no flat spots as you move the float lever. Resistance values will vary depending on the year of manufacture so what you get on a 2000 model may not be the same as a '98, etc.
