exhaust manifold

Does anyone know where I can buy an exhaust manifold for a Oldsmobile ninety-eight regency brougham?

I went to autozone/kragens and they dont have them, I tried ebay and there weren't any....

Maybe I should try a junkyard would it be hard to pull, are there any special procedures i need to know?

Does anyone know of a website that may sell discontinued parts or of an exhaust manifold that is interchangeable off of a different car?

Try car-part.com to search wrecking yards all over the country. Someone should have one that will fit. Did you ever get the engine in your car?

A junkyard manifold shouldn't be hard to find at all, considering how common the 3800 is. As for pulling one, the hardest part would be breaking the bolts loose without snapping any heads off, plus it would be a bit difficult to get at considering the angle you would be working at.

i actually went up to the junkyard today (longest bus ride/walk of my life) and found a few. But most of them had slightly dented tubes. I was told by the people at the yard that it wouldn't bother my engine because the dents were so little.

I got one for about $30 after tax and it comes with a free exchange so if the dents will bother it someone please let me know. O and its dented in 2 out of 3 tubes but they are real slight.

I didnt even notice one of them until they were pointed out to me.
Now I just need new starter bolts....got a new starter from autozone didnt come with the bolts but when i gave them the core i also gave them bolts...

Now i have a starter and no bolts...not to useful..

As for the dents in the manifold, they shoulnd't constict your airflow enough to matter unless the dents significantly stretch into where the air flows.

As for the starter bolts, go back to where you traded in the core and ask them if they still have it so you can get your bolts. Othwerwise, tell them your problem but I doubt that they will have bolts that fit, but it is worth a shot to ask. So its either another trip to the junkyard or to a hardware store (if you can remember the length, size, threading on the old bolts, someone in here might know).

I already went back to the hardware store trying to get my core back...no such luck, its already gone...

I was going to call around and see if any store had some for sale or some that they would just give to me... I already tried Autozone and Kragens. The only other places walking distance to me is Discount Auto Parts I never been there, and a machine shop, which I doubt will have starter bolts....

If I knew the thread count etc I would try a hardware store, but since I dont I'll probably go back to pick-and-pull.

yep got the exhaust manifold and i found a place with the starter bolts :)
TOO BAD EVERYTIME I GET THE PARTS I NEED I NEED ANOTHER PART.

Now I need the metal pipe that goes from the heater hose to the engine. Dunno why I need one but he says I'll need to replace it soon so I'll get one before hand and replace before time comes so I can finish.

The metal pipes that run to the heater core hoses needs to be replaced? Why? are they just really corroded or something? Wierd. At least it should be an inexpensive part as should the starter bolts.

You have to at least appreciate that these cars are easy to find parts for (especially the engine).

He said they were almost ready to go and I planned on having him change ALL the hoses anyway so I'll just add that to the list.

Too bad I dont know the real name for it I cant really go to autozone and say "do you have the metal heater hose thingy," even though Mark (my mechanic/friend) told me to get it from pick-and-pull for like $5.

Geez all this for a smog. @ least he's not charging me for labor.

They must be corroded pretty bad after all. At least it ought to be inexpensive and fairly easy to replace. As for free labor, that is awesome.

Hmm... No, I can't think of an official name. I'll look in my manual though.

Found it, It is listed as a "heater outlet pipe" in my factory GM manual. You'll probably have to still elaborate on what it is if I had to guess, but it is pretty easy to find where the heater core hoses connect into a metal pipe on the engine.

that part is actually harder to find than i thought it would be. i gotta go again for day two tomorrow.

i also tried www.car-part.com and www.thepartsbin.com both to no luck.

last part i think i'll need you never know messing with mark. he loves cars so much so everytime he sees one little thing slightly off he will correct it. thats why he's the only mechanic i would go to if i couldn't do it myself.

i can pull off of any of the 3800's/3.8 out of any car as long as its the same series as mine correct?

o wells tomorrow i'll have one for sure. theres three junkyards around me i tried one today i got 2 to go.

No luck in the junkyards? I'd figure it would be easy enough to find...shame, I had one just a couple months ago that I tossed when I moved.

As for compatibility, any engine the series and Vin as yours will work, but it would just be a guess as to other engines. I'd imagine that if you brought your current piece and compared them to similar engines, you'd prolly find one that matches (GM re-uses lots of parts).

the junk yards around here dont let you bring in your own parts because i guess they think you'll steal so no comparing....

i'm actually about to go to a different junk yard that i found my exhaust manifold @. the first junkyard is small and is mostly full of honda's but i gave it a shot.

i'm going to a real junk yard now.

WELLS..... went there today and got kicked out right when i found an engine with the part.... they closed :(

now i gotta go back tomorrow and hope its still there (it most likely will be) if not I'll just do some more searching....

after all this is done i'm doing some performance upgrades.

Got it this morning. Gonna be together by monday.

Now I need a new battery. I think i might go to an optima red or yellow top.
