small business owner

I'm just wondering how many of you guys out there have your own business???? I'm thinking of starting a real one of my own down the road one day. Im going to to school for hvac now but before I went to a local trade school to learn appliance repair, soon after I started a small low profile business and my truck has helped me out. I have a lot of respect for people that go out there and start something to call there own, I dedicate this post to them:smile:

Its not exactly my business by myself, but my mom and I started our own business and going into our fourth year. Mad props to the small business owners.

I have had my own industrial electrical company since 1997, state lic. C-10. I only have to work ten days a month at my county job, so I have time for both. The thing that sucks is the work is easiest part, the paper work is my weak point. Someone suggested getting married so I have someone to do the paperwork. I see that backfiring on me big time.

I've been buying, selling and restoring antique Wurlitzer jukeboxes since 1982 as a full-time business. Starting to wind down a bit now. Still have a half dozen here to restore. Being self-employed is a great feeling. I highly recommend it. Mike

I will someday own my own car company. And both of my parents are bussines owners/entrepreneurs

been doing home designs for a while now...designing a 2000 seat church at the moment...my biggest project to date...but been designing business cards, flyers, and logos...fun to do

My dad started his own business way back in 1992. Big clients have come and gone, but new ones have thankfully been right around the corner. I've seen his blood, sweat, and tears. He started out of the house for the first 2 years. I've seen and have nothing but the utter most respect and admiration towards my dad. He worked while my mom and I went on vacation. In the next year or two he'll be selling the company to one of a few interested buyers, and then retiring.

I do suggest that you get some in field experience in various shops and such of your trade to witness first hands the do's and don'ts.

I up and quit my job 3 years ago and started my own welding & fab shop. I love it and don't regret it a bit. I work by myself anywhere from 1 to 20 hrs a day. It's a good feeling looking back. (at least for now)

And yes I use my truck for work.

I have been there for 35 years.
It is not for everybody.
But if you are cut out for being your own boss have at it.
And good luck to you.
It takes a lot of determination and hard work and cash to get a good start.
The old mom and pop operations are not what they used to be.
Big operations and chain store have made things harder on them.
A old business man told me always have a 6 mo backup reserve so you can operate 6 mo without taking in any cash.
There will be good and bad times so have enought reserve to carry you threw the bad.
