92 Taurus Wagon

Hey all,

Just bought a '92 Taurus Wagon for a work/second car so that I can leave my PSD parked. Darn high diesel. :banghead: Getting ready to do some work on the car and stumbled across this forum.

Anyway...it looks like I need to do some maintanence to the old girl. The oil hasn't been changed in nearly 3 years, she's low on coolant, and the transaxle fluid smells funky. And the PS resevoir is completely full. Need to draw that down a bit.

What is the pan capacity for the transaxle? And does it have a drain plug? I haven't crawled under the car to see. And I'm assuming that Mercon goes back in the tranny.

Are there any gotchas that I need to look our for...or anything that is susceptible to failure.

The car has the 3.0L engine and has 150k on the ticker. Engine runs like a clock and tranny shifts good...no slippage that I can feel.

Thanks for any help.

If you don't like driving the PSD ... I'd be glad to take it off of your hands ...

Flushing the coolant would be good for the car. The pan capacity should be 7 quarts. Instead of just dropping the pan, I'd reccomend doing a complete flush yourself, there are quite a few different ways to do this. The transmission is a weakpoint on these cars - I'm sure you've heard that. But the 3.0 vulcan engine is not weak or inferior by any means. It doesn't make that much power but they don't have many failures.
