car audio system

I am just wondering if any of you guys have put in an aftermarket system in your car. I plan on putting a pioneer headunit in mine after i get it paid off. Did any of you put in an amplifier and subs? If so how did you run the power wire to the trunk of the car. where did you get through the firewall at or did you make a new hole? thanks

I put in a 10 cd changer in the trunk. It is RF modulated and works great. Guy at the electronics store said it is better to do this than replace the unit. He said if you put in a new unit in the dash, somebody will just break in and steal it. They don't sell as many of these anymore because of ipods,etc.

I ran the wire underneath the door thresholds and kind of went behind the plastic pieces all along the way. Just backed off the screws a bit to tuck the wire under. The wire to the trunk went behind the rear seat into the trunk. It was fairly easy to install.

From what I recall, there are different places/options to run wires through the fire wall. I have run wiring through or near a rubber grommet, driver's side directly into the car. It went through very easily.

Has ANYONE else on here done any mods to their buicks? If not can anyone direct me to a forum website that they have done modifications to buicks. thanks

There is really no correct way to do it. There should be numerous places to run wires through your firewall. I work a very popular mobile electronics shop and have seen it done and have done it many times. I did not catch exactly what year or model you had but you may run into slight problems if you have the concert sound II system by changing the head unit...sometimes they can have a factory amp that may need to be rewired.

I've added a system to my 92' Park Avenue, which is basically the same as your 95' Lesabre(assuming the 95' you have listed is the car you're refering to!) The battery is located on the passenger side of the vehicle. This means that you should trail you amp power cable through that side to conserve wire. Originally I trailed the wire underneath the car and came up through the rear passenger floorboard drain cover, and then went through the threshold and back into the trunk. I don't recommend going this route. Remove the plastic fuse cover on the firewall and look at where the thick wire harness (about 1 1/2 in) goes through the firewall. That is where I went through, but not before dremelling the hole larger so my 1,000 watt amp cable could fit through also. Once it was inside, I used black weatherstrip sealant to seal everything in place. I added an aftermarket deck to my car, but I always take the face cover with me so if someone decides to break in, they'll just be wasting their time!:)

i have a '92 lesabre and i have two twelves in a ported box, with a 900 watt amp and a 200 watt head unit. i ran the power wire under the plastic next to the doors on the passenger side and cut a slot so the wire could go up through the door jam and under the hood. after that just tuck it under the edge of the inside where the fender and engine bay meet. i know its not a very good idea to run it in the door jam but i wanted those subs in right then. i also mounted my amp on a piece of diamond plate and screwed it to where the jack box was in the trunk, cut a slit in the carpet on the side and hid all the wires. looked real clean. hope it helps!!

Thanks for the help guys and yes i have a 95 lesabre. That helps to know where to run the wire through. But when you get to the back how do you get into the trunk? Do you have to remove the seats and if you do how do you do so? Thanks. Also have any of you put in tweaters or did you just get new 4x6 speakers. I took out my stock ones adn saw they were 10 ohm so thats why they sound like crap. I was thinking on replacing them sometime or getting tweeters for up there. thanks for the help

when you get to the back, more than likely you will have to take the seat out. to do so,(if its anything like my 92)you have to push in on the front of the bottom part of the seat and lift up. the back is held on by two nuts which also holds the seatbelts down. i think its a 15 or 18mm. after you get the nuts off then lift up to get it out of the slots. more than likely there will be a net seperating the seat from the trunk, dont worry about the net. just take your wire and run it through and assembly is opposite of the above. hope this helps at all.:)
