Water, water, everywhere....well only in the rear :)

I'd like to dig up an old topic for a second. I was wondering if there were any new thoughts on the water in the rear floorboards of first gen. luminas? We just got a lot of rain in Southern Illinois and I had a nice surprise when I lifted up my rear floor mats. My in-car swimming pool is open for business!!!! As usual, the water is only on the driver's side in the rear. I did what I've been doing all along: Throw an Absorber in there to soak up the water. Anyone have any new breakthrough's on the topic?

Pull the seats out, rear firs,t pull the carpet and padding up and dry it out before mildew takes over, get in the car and have someone soak it down and see where it comes in, lots of possibilities here.

If I get in the car soon after the rain, I can tell from the wet carpet, where it is coming from. There is a small "stream" of water that comes from the bottom of the door, down into the floor (I'll post a pic to describe this better). I'm wondering if it could be the weatherstrips.

Look for blocked drains in the bottom of the door shell , or the paper/plastic water deflector in the door is missing or loose, behind the trim pad.

could you elaborate? What is the door shell? Here is a photo to help describe where the water is coming from: (The arrow shows the path, leading to the swimming pool)

Door shell meaning the door itself, has drain holes below /behind the lower weatherstrip, if they are clogged the water builds up in the door and backs up into the car, as I said pull the carpets up and rear seats and water test for the source of the leak, no other way here, also as I said, mildew is an issue with water under the carpet.

Thanks! When the weather gets better here, I'll pull out the seats/carpet. I have access to lots of carpet pad, so replacing that won't be an issue:iceslolan . I have another issue with water in the vehicle, but maybe I should do them one at a time.

I just remembered something that may be the culprit. If you are referring to the plastic that is INSIDE the door, that probably is my problem. Right after I got the car, I had problems with the driver's side rear window (not going up/down). A friend of mine took the inside door panel off and slashed a rather large hole in the plastic "sheeting." I assumed that it didn't really serve a purpose, I got my power window fixed and left it alone. Could that be the prob? I really hope that's it; that would be a simple fix!

Could be, but again do the water test first, either way that has to be replaced.

how do I remove the interior moldings (the plastic parts along the bottom/sides)?

The part I'm referring to is the plastic that is just above the "arrow tail" in my picture. I assume I have to remove it to get the carpet up.

Well, I finally got to begin my search for the source of the water in my floor! I pulled the door trim off to find this: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/455507100_2169.JPG
Hair that's been collecting for 13 years!!!!!

Sure is dusty too. I love to cruise me some gravel roads!!!

After I got over the initial shock of that,
I noticed that the plastic on the inside
of the door is barely hanging on as seen here:http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/455507100_2176.JPG
Should I resort to some good ole duct tape to keep the plastic where it's supposed to be? I can't see how the water would be coming in from here, but there's so much dust it's really hard to tell. I might pull the door panel off again and have a friend hit the door with the hose to see if I can find the leak.
