try connecting the cable modem directly to your computer and see how the internet acts that way. If everything is fine then connect the modem to the network router and then your computer only and see and continue on from there. The problem is probably going to lie in the wireless network router.

Is your Wireless Networking card showing as working in Device manager? Right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, expand network adapters. You'll probably have your wired ethernet adapter, and your wireless adapter. Does it say it's working? Are there any yellow exclamation points, or red crosses through anything?
Are you using Windows to configure your wireless settings? If you are, can you see the wireless network you want to connect to? What happens when you try to connect to it? Do you have the key saved?
I have found a few quirks and bugs in the Windows Wireless networking client. If you can see the wireless network you want to connect to, but when you try to connect to it WITH THE CORRECT KEY and it times out, try this:
-Open the properties for your wireless adapter (Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, right click Wireless network Connection, Properties)
-Go to the Wireless Networks tab
-Delete the network you're trying to connect to
-Click Add, and enter all the details of the connection - SSID, Key, Type etc. The best place to get this information is to login to your router from a wired computer (or other working wireless computer) and go to the Wireless Network settings and print it out.
-Click OK twice to get back to Network Connections. Right click your wireless network connection and select repair. If it works, you'll be connected to your wireless network again. Repeat this last step (repair) whenever it drops out again.
