2001 towncar fuel pump

when turning engine off the fuel pump stays on and drains the battery, have to disconnect the battery to turn it off. any ideas what is wrong?

Never heard of this one before :uhoh: Is it still acting up?
I'm thinking the ignition switch isnt turning everything off properly. Beyond that, maybe a bad ECU keeping power to the fuel pump.
I dont know how you might go about diagnosing the problem. Any word from the guys at LoL?

when turning engine off the fuel pump stays on and drains the battery, have to disconnect the battery to turn it off. any ideas what is wrong?
in the trunk of the car mounted on the left side of the spare tire (may be right side not sure on your model town car) is a tremor switch (aka the emergency fuel pump shut off). do not tap the tremor switch itself. tap where it is mounted untill it engages and the little button comes up. you can use your hand for this, however it does take a little force to get it to trip. then go in the car and turn the key to run and see if the pump engages. then when you received your results, turn the key off and go back to the trunk and push the button back down. finally, go back in the car and turn the key to run and see if the fuel pump does the same thing. let me know what happens.

Look in the electrical control center should be left middle of the engine compartment. Look for the fuel pump relay I think it is stuck closed put your finger on it and have your wife shut off and restart you should feel it click.
If any friend has another one or a ford pickup try swapping relays.
The dealer sells them not sure about NAPA. Get the number off your old one for a listing.
If the relay opens the pump has to stop. Because this shuts off the power. Like shutting off your lights. Otherwise you have two bare spots in your wiring harness rubbing.
