Sounds like a problem with your catalytic converter.

Sounds like a converter to me too. What year, engine, and model is your car? How many miles are on it?

sign that cat's about to go... or already gone...

you can goto an autoparts supplier that carries a chemical to put in your gas tank to relieve it somewhat/ it's just a band-aid though & most likey in need of a new replacement cat, but if it works out for u--> the better!

something like this: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2000760/showCustom-0/p-2000760/N-111+600010654+10214/c-10114

The reason I asked the year and mileage is that if it's a 00-02 model, it may be covered under an extended warranty.

well then, take it back to that shop who installed it; was it a universal-type that they just welded on?

or was it the type that is OEM-quality? bolts/flanges/gaskets...etc.

see if they'll pay for that deodorizer/cleaner... & then keep an eye on the warranty period.:2cents:

They usually go stinky due to HC contamination...it's possible that your emgine is putting out heavy emissions so bad, it's going to ruin another one if put on...

Was it changed to get you through inspection, or because of overheating or restriction, etc? What was the original need for it?

Kinda wondering why you can smell your exhaust so strongly in the cabin, regardless of the other issue?

I just got thinking, what if we are all on the wrong track totally, and it's something evil in his evep core that gets sloshed up and disturbed when you accelerate?

original reason for the new converter was so i could pass my emissions test
after that was replaced passed with flying colors, just before we got it off my gf's parents they had a bunch of stuff done to it... we actually got it the day they got it out of the garage from the repairs, i know they spent like $2500 in repairs
