its a big step, and for all intents and purposes, a good one. I was close to joining the USMC on reserves but chose otherwise at the end of all my deliberation. best of luck, and remember to say Hi to the Raz_Kaz if you see him out there

Joining the reserves? Which service? I'm in the service active duty and your job and service pretty much will deterimine where you will go and/or how soon you will go. I'm not going to the middle east anytime soon. I am going to japan for 4 years next year.

good luck. as for advice, nothing other than stay fit and don't get killed, we don't need to lose another member.
I'm still debating whether or not i'm going to join. if i do it'll be through the rotp (regular officer's training plan, you go to university, they pay for everything and give you $800 per month to spend, then you do 3-5 years in the military as an officer, depending on how long you were in school). I'm not sure if i want to commit the 5 years after my 4 years of university, plus i don't know if i'll be done in 4 years because i'm in a program that i don't want tobe in (electrical engineering vs mechanical engineering, if i get stuck in electrical i'll have to do another 2 years to get my mechanical engineering degree) so i don't want to have to join if i don't have the degree i wanted.
anyways good luck with whatever happens.

I'm also in the boat of deciding on whether to join or not. A recruiter called today as a matter of fact because I inquired awhile ago on information for joining. So anyway they called today and asked me a shit load of questions and now wants set up an interview with me.

congratulations. You will be spending a lot more time with your recruitment officer in the coming days then, training for boot camp. Keep us posted on how you're handling the training. If after boot camp you're able to log on again, tell us how The Crucible went!

yeah, my recruiter explained how tough the crucible will be, but he says everything afterwards is a cakewalk, even the 5 mile run seems like nothing because by the time you run it, you will be conditioned enough to just run it casually. (he also said the run is less of a test than it is a showoff for your family, as they get to join you in the run for motivation and inspiration)
EDIT: There is a History Channel special on the crucible, if you find it somewhere, it will be really interesting to watch, so maybe you can understand what's ahead of you. My recruiter told me it was really well made. just a heads up. /Edit.
good luck in the coming days

I am not one bit. Although my two hundred dollars from jury duty came in less time then they specified which surprised the hell out of me. But that was state gov't.
